Zombie?
I became a zombie and I have no clue how its really affecting me. Maybe its just coincidence but after I became a zombie I was dealing about 2 more points of damage on every hit, is that what it does?

No, that's just bad luck XD
As a zombie, you lose the ability to recover with healing items/spells. I think it´s explained in the RPG FAQ too

It reverses the effect of healing - you get hurt when you try to heal! Dunno about the extra damage, that may be just a coincidence XD It's healed by Holy water

haha ok thanks, and when I cured it this morning it took me about 3 fights before I could hit anything which I think was just bad luck

Damage dealt is random, so I don't think the status effects should make any difference.
