I did play one emulated version though, I think it might've been 4.

I thin it boils down to, Zidane is fast and cunning, he would pick away at cloud bit by bit and wear him down for the kill whilst avoiding being hit himself, however cloud only needs to land a couple of blows to take zidane out. I tend to work on the assumption that the main characters would be fairly balanced against each other if they were to fight

yeah well lets remember that the reason kuja kills a planet is cos of ultima, if ultima was just as powerful in 7 then the world would have been ending a lot in that game XD oh and sephiroth destroys the entire solar system...several times depending on how long you spend fighting him XD

Yeah, well I can play that game.
Necron does the same exact thing and he gets his arse handed to him as one of the worst bosses in the game.
AND meteor is a common spell in 9, not a world crushing ball of death.
Which leads me to believe that the world of 9 is much bigger that the world of 7.....
