For Arc's example of the spider, isn't that the classic example of an argument from ignorance? Like drawing a conclusion instead of saying "I have reasoning for this, but not proof, so I'll suspend concluding for now and try to investigate"? Then do something like point a camera on the back your head and look away from the spider or something.
that is exactly what i meant by it XD saying, just because you are ignorant of what something really could be, thinking it must be what is left in your own mind without other evidence XD
Though seriously if Im out walking around in the night to ASDA with the pedo/rapist/murderer/psycho of questionable sanity vampy....who do I have to be afraid of? XD

Well I kinda jumped in here because I thought you were more victimized as your conversation with cable went along. So far as I can tell, cable never means to insult anyone and neither do I. Perhaps you're the type of person who prefers direct conversations instead of reading posts online; I don't know.
Anyways, I'm just saying all matter like you, me, the mall, grass, everything is a wave. We all have wavelengths.
Anyways, when I was referring to Arc's example I meant that people shouldn't try to draw conclusions unless it's absolutely necessary. in the past, concluding that earth was flat only gave way to ridiculing people who found out that it was round. However, early age health care was necessary, but lacked the knowledge to treat several diseases. People used things such as witch doctors, untested herbs, etc. to try and cure the sick because they didn't have the time to develop the technology and test every little detail. Of course it's hard to accept things like during the bubonic plague, cooling people's fevers made things worse, but ultimately it was one of the things people thought was best.
:T but I feel like it's a logical idea... since I believe spirits exist... like... if you got bit by a spider in the night but didnt see it, it may be illogical to say "I was bitten by a lion!" but still be perfectly logical to say "I was bitten by a spider!" While it still could have been any other species of insect. You used your knowledge in the situation to draw a logical conclusion. You only think my idea is based of ignorance because you don't believe spirits exist... even though saying it was an elaborate prank is almost as implausible you would accept that theory. I already said I understand what you mean... what more do you want from me? Or are we just making fun of me now? ...
Also Star... I never drew an conclusion, I have never said "That is the only explanation!" I said that it makes sense to me and that I think it is a valid theory... I just dont understand why you keep making me say that...

Sorry, but the "argument of ignorance" is simply what I call it, I didn't mean to say what you said is ignorant. I wanted to assess the practicality of of drawing a conclusion. Now, on your example of the being bit by a spider, I personally would say that something bit me and yes, I would say it might be a spider. It's useful since I can ask around about the types of things around and see if it might be poisonous.
Again, I'm only concerned about this because you seem a bit distressed and sound like people are trying to go after you. I'm just trying to clarify things overall as well as say, no, no one is after you.
Well that is what I am saying Star... "Something that both a friend of mine and I heard, made that sound and opened a locked door while inside an empty (other than us) locked building. Also, whatever it was was not seen by either me or my friend and it would have been physically impossible for a human to have entered the locked building without setting off the motion alarm." That is all I am saying, and then I am stating that my theory is that it may possibly have been a spirit. I am also saying that such a theory is sound and logical (given a basis of believing in spirits)
and yeah... I was getting a bit distressed... because it sounded like people were making fun of me... and treating me like I am trying to force my view on others or something.

I think cable was assuming that you're trying to universally apply what you said there and he has that reflex to "science-check" something. But like you said, you're not doing that.
A real life example for me personally is that I believe something's "mass" is the result of a boson leaping into high dimensions. Now, this is based on knowledge, but isn't proven so all I can do is try to find out. I admit I'm most likely wrong, and the answer's coming out at about November of this year. Since I'm not basing any real life decisions on this little thing it's safe to just make a hypothesis.
Maybe it's best if you just assumed that people here are not making fun you unless they make it obvious.

Oh well, I'm probably wrong about it but it's cool to imagine it that way.
And um...is someone's trying to be sarcastic or something...who cares. You're confident in your view and I'm...not so confident in mine, but...oh well.

Thats what almost 6 years of studying science one way or another does.... And yes, my mistake in misunderstanding what was being said.
And I'm really sorry Rose, I think we're coming at it from two different perspectives. I've been in this field for far too long to think like a normal person. I am much more used to having hypotheses to test theories out, rather than accepting a theory based on personally experiencing something. Guess you can call it a theory at least.
And I have no idea why I am arguing with myself; I do also believe in the supernatural. Maybe its just that I don't feel it would be that physical in a sense....

You know what, I have absolutely no problem with anyone trying to force their beliefs on me. If they have evidence than that's perfectly fine. I've realized that through American communities that some people are afraid of "offending" others so they don't say anything. Others have evidently lost jobs and friends because of it so I guess I can't blame them. However, online you can do almost anything.
