The butterflies? Took me less than 10 minutes...couple practice runs, then I got them.
The last few are a little tricky because the red ones are all bunched up but...there is a way through them without touching, and it isn't what looks the most obvious. =)
Other than that...just have to really optimize your path that you run and try to keep it as short as possible.
Now the friggin Chocobos are driving me INSANE! I got too happy too early thinking I beat it when I forgot that I need to beat 0.0 =(
I have done it *once* in the past when playing the US version.
I actually hit 14 balloons earlier, which would be enough...but also 4 birds =(
I gave up for the night and just started playing some FF-X2 instead lol!

If you are in a situation where you can either hit a balloon, but get hit by a bird, or miss both the balloon and the bird, choose to miss both. The 1.2 second or so delay you get from being hit makes it not worth it. Also, in the start area, do not cross onto the trainer's side until you hit a balloon on your side.
