sounds neat.
when it comes out ill see how it is by then, as it could just be marketing buzz at the moment.
november launch? 1 year after the 360? giving it a whole year headstart?
interesting. though it does seem like 20 people owe me money because i predicted a fall launch, and everyone else who i bet with said spring.
i get to do my victory dance on them!
(places $5 on it costing $500)
edit: oh wait its shipping with the HDD, make my guess $600 then.

thaaaats not good. the cost of Blu-Ray Discs is extremely high, if they cant get it under controll soon after launch, the prices of games could be up to $80 each.
but they have alot of time to reduce the cost, they have till november, so that will allow them to perfect the technology to make discs and hopefuly drive down the cost.

if they are smart they wont do that.
but i have no idea if they will or not. its all in the air. if the HDD comes with it then its going to be about $100 more. if not then i guess a $400 is possible.
i think they will pull a "Sony PS2" and a "Microsoft 360" and make the console very limited quantities to drive up the price on e-bay and get some free hype and extra news coverage.
Prediction:
<Sony> "Oh noez our PS3 shipment burned up in a stock fire. now there are only 1million PS3's to go world wide. a complete accident. so people go buy them and SELL THEM ON E-BAY FOR $5000!"

its not the console that i hate, i think the playstation is fine.
its just sony, i hate the whole company, they are 99% marketing. EVERYTHING they do has sales and $$$ in mind.
microsoft is at least trying i can see that, i mean when they dont have a monopoly i can see the competitive spirit in them to come out on top. and i truely hope that they NEVER come out on top, because then they would become pricks again and make a shoddy product just because they are "The winner"
i actually hope that the two consoles get a reality check and become tied, then hopefuly sony will put some real effort into thinking about the consumer, and microsoft wont ever become the pricks that they have with windows. hell even better if nintendo came in the lead that would be AWESOME, then sony would get their reality check, microsoft wont be on top, and nintendo would get the love it deserves.
sorry for the rant. i visit a lot of forums and i deal with fanboys alot, i just explodes some times.
the world wide launch though i think is an awful idea, microsoft did it and it proved that its just a crappy idea, let the first country be the real beta test. let the japanese beta the PS3 before it comes to america. hell the japanese want the PS3 more than us americans anyway, they LOVE that *, i think they would sell their children for a PS console. so what if we have to wait 4 months later, we will still live, and we wont be buying as much crap as if we bought it the first day.

Ah didn't think about the price. I never go back to play really old games for the first time though. The experience isn't always great since anytime a good game comes out with something original, just about every developer rips it off so going back to play the older game doesn't seem special

hrm it appears that while the PS3 will be region free, BD discs are.
its in 3 areas though. North and South America and Asia (but not China); Europe and Africa; and Russia, China and everywhere else.
so technically its not regon free... but the regions are just larger.

while the article is about HD-DvD region coding, it does mention that BD is also doing the same, but with just larger regions (BD has 3, HD has 7)
