Will this game be very good?
EDIT - I take it back this game does look promising
I will buy it and hope that this game will be really good. Usually great games have interesting screenshots and trailers, so far nothing is really impressing me to a point where I have to have the game asap.

Can you tell me one thing. The feeling you have for FFXII, was it the same one you had about 8 months before the other FF's were released?
edit: Anyway. This game first debuted in public over a year and a half ago. Thats 2 years before it's release date (For English speaking countries). Heck if they've taken that bloody long to make it it must be good.

In all honesty the only other time I felt this way was about FF9 and FF11. Every other trailer/screenshot 8 months or more prior to the game's release looked promising, especially FFX.

It takes that long to create graphics, not an amazing story that totally captures you into the gaming experience. Again, I will buy the game and hope that it is really good, it is just that I am not really big on cutesie characters like this:

I know that a lot of people say that age doesn't matter when it comes to certain games, movies, etc. However I feel that I am too old for little cute characters but that is just me. I will try to ignore them and enjoy the game though.

The battle system is totally new and i'm excited about it! It's in real time, so no more 'smashing' of the screen and you on one side, baddies on the other side etc. Here's a video of a short battle in FFXII happening as the characters are walking around some walkway.
http://streamingmovies.ign.com/ps2/article/515/515011/ffxii_051304_03_wmvlow.wmv?wu=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.ps2.ign.com%2Fmedia%2F488%2F488222%2Fvid_835241.html%3Fmu%3D%3CURL%2F%3E
So, you can open that little menu at any time it seems, as someone used white magic to heal a character in that vid. And when you are wihtin range of an enemy you can select an attack/spell so then your player will attack the enemy. You coul see how Ashe was running ad then they opened the little menu to initiate an attack on the eemy when she got close. It looks like those white streams going from the characters to the enemy indicate that they are about to attack that enemy.
Also I should note that I think wherever you walk, two other characters will walk with you, instead of just popping up when a battle begins like in past games.
Here's an extract from the FFXII official press sheet
| Quote: |
The story isn’t all that’s new—experience an evolved battle system with numerous features never before seen in the FINAL FANTASY series.
1. ADB – Active Dimension Battle is a shift from ATB (Active Time Battle), lending more realism to the battle by allowing seamless switching between the field and the battle scene.
2. Load time between the field and the battle scene that is unrelated to actual gameplay has been eliminated, ensuring smoother gaming.
3. Besides time elements, such as the attack timing, the player can fully utilize the field geography in terms of differences in ground level, intricate terrain, places with low visibility and the like.
4. Enemy monsters can also take advantage of the varied tactics that ADB offers, possessing sophisticated AI to ambush parties, back up their comrades and restore HP. |

lol, awww, I'd laugh if maybe just one level required you to 'save the creatures' or if you had to control one of those creatures.
Or maybe those cute widdle fwuffy fings are really EVIL!
