Why IE7 is good news to Firefox and Opera

if you read the magazene half of the article "Software'd" is about browsers.

now MANY of you are put off by using a Non-Microsoft browser. a HUGE reason ive heard is "My favorite webpage doesnt look right."

this is mainly because Internet Explorer doesnt conform the the Web Standards Consortium. it will render pages with its own code and script that is different than the standards set by www.w3c.com while Both Opera and Firefox both conform to these standards.

but since IE is more popular, many web-pages are only tested ON IE to see if it looks right rather than seeing if it works with Firefox or Opera.

IE7 now more closely conforms to the W3c and as such you will find that even pages only tested in IE. will render better in Firefox or Opera. and in the coming years, every webdesigner with half a brain will guarantee that their website does conform to these standards so that the most amount of people can enjoy their site.

ofcourse, im not an expert in this field. but FunEnder is. what i know may be completely off, and i would LOVE to hear what he has to say on the issue of W3c.

Yeah, that's the one thing I like most about IE 7, the better standards support. There are still a lot of non-standard extensions supported in IE that don't work in FF or Opera, but it's better.

The only problem is that some people will still be using IE 6 for years, so it takes a long time for the web sites to catch up to the changes in the browser.
