Passive Protection character would be....Steiner, whoa check out whats his defense and magic defense after equipping Tin Armor.
Characteristic Protection wise would be....Zidane. He wants to protect the ones he love and ended up saving the world, which builds his characteristic over nature protection. He also wants to protect the main villain Kuja after all he's been through.
