Well it depends right?
I mean, a combat scene will not be nearly as exciting in a manga is it would be in the anime, especially if we're talking about great action anime like Naruto, or of the sorts.
Reading the manga simply has us imagining every bit of detail not shown, but anime provides us with way much more than that, giving us a voice to relate to the character, a movement pattern, so on, so forth.
Long story short, in my opinion, if you're into Books because of how they feed your imagination as you read, then stick to Manga. If you're into movies, action, combat sequences, or overall animation, then sticking to the Anime would be the best choice.

well you have a point there...but story wise i think mangas are better, they cover more, go into more details...i have a good imagination so i dont need anime to show me the battle scenes, manga blocks are perfectly enough...im really more itnerested in the story
just btw i dont like naruto, i think its boring lol

agree with shandy and ohmywood...take fruit basket for example, it barely covers the 5th manga i believe, out of 23...they missed lots of good things from the manga and in the anime, there was always this bad character missing, it lacked evilness of some sort U.U

I've just been reading the first few FMA mangas and they seem to cover less than the anime. The manga completely skips Ed going to become a State Alchemist and decides that he's always been a State Alchemist. It also misses out quite a lot of other parts which are in the anime, some relevant to the main storyline, and some not so relevant. I definitely prefer the anime to the manga.
The only other anime series I've seen which I've read the manga for is Bleach, and there appears to be very little difference between the two. There's the occasional extra joke in the manga but only as filler pages.

I prefer the Naruto manga to the anime because the voices get on my nerves but I would much rather watch Full Metal Alchemist because well when magic is involved you need actual movement and not just pictures Inuyasha was pretty good as an anime but I had to watch it with the mute button because the dialogue was crappy

I tend to like a lot of manga more than anime but sometimes the anime is pretty good as well though but I don't think I can survive without manga. It's my powerhouse for my daily bit of creativity >_<

Actually, the FMA manga has an almost completely different storyline from the anime, and does cover Ed becoming an alchemist, in a later * scene.
As to the OP's question, given that most anime are created to help sell manga, it follows that the manga are in general better than the anime. The book is not always better though, and it doesn't always come first either. For example, the NGE anime is actually the first incarnation of the story, rather than the manga, and the manga isn't even considered canon. Nevermind that Sadamoto is no where near the writer that Anno is, either. =P

Disagreed. They both follow the same main points with, as I said, a few differences, some major and some minor.

But he's not on his way to become a State Alchemist when the General's train is taken over by terrorists in the manga. The only reason Ed was able to take the exam at such a young age was because he saved the General. Anyway, I've only read the first five manga.
I definitely prefer the anime though. If I had attempted to read the manga first I don't think I'd have even attempted to watch the anime. The storyline in the manga seems to flow as smoothly as a mountain range and bends about almost just as much. The storyline for the anime has clearly been developed upon judging by the similar content from both manga and anime, thus meaning that the anime has a nice, smooth flow to it, much like a glass of Irn-Bru. Just not as orange.

just one comment... normally I agree with you - the manga tends to be better
I've only ever encountered one exception... Soul Eater.
I started reading the manga and then found out there was an anime... it was so much better!
The animation's good plus it's incredb=ibly funny... and it's much funnier than the manga lol
so I stopped reading the manga and am just waiting for episodes to come out XD

Some animes, the manga is more detailed and better. Some animes, the anime is better than the manga. For animes like Detective Conan, the manga is much simpler than the anime (investigations should be detailed - like in manga) and DragonBall. In the anime, it takes 10 minutes for opponents to stare each other with the added environment effects (breeze, aura, etc) before fight.
However, for animes like devil may cry, D-Gray Man, Blassreiter, Gundam...the animes tend to prevail. The action is best projected in screen and animated, rather than drawing them.

I prefer Manga, there's no anime on T.V in Australia and if I watch anime on the computer, It will be too obvious. Most of the time, the manga is the original version and the original version is often better than the crappy anime.
