I have to say Final Fantasy IX because of the FMV sequences, the PlayStation 2 was new with Final Fantasies and the graphics and FMV sequences were great. - If not that then Final Fantasy X - the first one where they actually SPOKE!

Speaking has nothing to do with it. This is the best graphics. Besides, the voices actually put me off the game. The American accents are horrendous. No one wants to hear that when they're trying to play a game.
Anyway, the graphics in Final Fantasy IX (both FMV and in-game) weren't really any better than FF VIII. Since this is also for the game's time that would mean that VIII had better graphics for it's time, although FF VII (first 3D Final Fantasy, this fact actually contributing towards something relevant to this topic) undeniably had the best graphics for it's time. If people actually bothered reading the whole title then FF X wouldn't have anywhere near as many votes. The graphics in X were about average for that time.

I agree. FFVIII was a HUGE improvement over FFVII, graphically. FMV, with music. Even without voices, the cutscenes (FMV ones) were awesome, and where reason enough to play the game again.

It was a huge improvement, although you've got to take into account that FF VIII is a whole disk longer (not to mention that the third disk of FF VII is around a fifth of the length of the others) meaning that they could store more data on the other disks such as graphics so that's no real surprise. I wouldn't say they were better for the time FF VIII was made though. Slightly better than most games but there were still quite a few games with graphics just as good.

I would say FF XII but that is obvious cause it was the last one, the in-game graphics were a lot better than in FFX, but i prefer the graphics in FFX cutscenes...also if we are talking about the time when the game was released then i would say final fantasy 8, even though the faces werent really faces, it was a lot better than the squary hands from FF VII, and the fact that the characters were tall, makes it look better than FF IX where the characters are again small (like in FFVII)
FFVIII actually. "For it's time" is the only reason why though. Remember that FFVIII was the first video game to get rid of polygons and start using rounded CG
yup, and they also made them tall which was a great advance xD...but then in IX they´re small again , first time I played i thought they were 10 years old or so
I think that Final Fantasy VII had the best graphics for its time since when Final Fantasy X came out all the games pretty much had the same graphics as it so yeah I pick Final Fantasy VII although I'm sure a lot of people just picked Final Fantasy X cause it's proberly their favourite

Do people not realise that FMV are pre-rendered? Meaning that the graphics in FMVs are as good as the rendering software and computers that can handle them (outside the game system). Most of the 3D FMVs are not in-game but are a movie file. This cannot be used in which has the best graphics for it's time.
Lord J is correct in stating that FFVII had the best for it's time as it was one of the first in the 3D field to really show what a PS was capable of. FFVIII was mediocre in the graphics department so was FIX and X (great FMVs but they cannot be used in this).
