both items are rares....as you'll notice later too when you find more rares...some can be used in battle...as equipment, weapon or spells...some are only collectibles or you can mix them in the cauldron (according to a cauldron tip secret) and create another rare

Crap... so do I mix two rare items together? Or common and rare items? I think I might just hold on to them...i'm too scared to waste them even though they do nothing for me...

oh no no..dont mix anything lol there are other rares called Cauldron Tip Secrets....they tell you what items to mix to get another one...trying to mix anything else than in these tips will result in losing the item and not getting anything...so.dont mix any rares unless you know the tip (the old tips are actually in the RPG FAQ)

Ya some people just like to collect them. This site even has a User Group made for rare collectors and its almost like a competition to see who can get the most rares or even the most rare item.... or you could just sell them on the ebay here if you feel like you want some extra gil. But make sure to ask someone (or a couple different people) how much an item might be worth so you get an idea of much to expect. On a side note: welcome to the site
