what to make of Cloud?
Yo! ^-^
Just a couple of weeks ago, i got my hands on the original AC movie  yes i dl-ed the versions i had, but it was awesome to finally have the original one with all the extra materials ^-^
there was this interview with nomura-san, Uematsu-san and the complete staff that worked on this great game...
anyway, the point is, i heard something i really hadn't thought about
Nomura-san said Cloud was rather weak for a main character, now i know that, all of us do XD he's not particularly strong, but he said they did this on purpose so the players could identify themselves with him...kind of to get the "ah, if he can do it, so can i" reaction
as i told you, i hadn't really thought about it, but i've been thinking and i believe it could somehow in a crazy world, be true ^^;
what are your thoughts on that? have you ever considered that before?

Well he was mentally weak...which fit in to the storyline of him not really having his own identity until towards the end...but I never saw him as relatable in the strength department...the giant ass sword and limit breaks like omnislash didn't really help the image of being not that strong...and in the movie it seemed more like he lacked the will to fight...of course that was just my impressions.

He wasn't weak physically, and I doubt that's what they meant. After all, you start the game as an a former eliter government SOLDIER gone mercenary blowing up a government facility... does not say weak to me. He is however, very emotionally weak. He doesn't care about anything at all... the ultimate in apathy. I believe that's what they were referring to.

hmmm yeah, that's it, he's mentally weak...but he cares about things...about ppl...you know, in the same interview nomura-san said when cloud is the happiest he gets more lonely...but he *does* care about the ppl around him: Tifa, Marlene, Denzel...even Barret (lol)
and in the new "complete movie" he doesn't seem than angsty anymore XD though he does seem weaker than sephiroth by far...

Its a captalized fashion trend catering to pseudo depressed teens who have too much cash in pocket...damnit I sound like a hippie now what the hell's wrong with me...anyway its turned into the goth/punk fashions...angst is the behavior you're not emo until you get the clothes/hair/accessories that go along with the fashion.

I concur, emo is a lifestyle, not a fashion. There is a fashion that can, but does not have to, go along with it. It is definitely not solely based on fashion. That is why when you refer to someone who is emo you say "That whiney little sausage wallet is way too emo for me" ... Not "That whiney little sausage wallet dresses way too emo for me"
And Squall is very emo
I've been both, Goth's and Emo's have little to nothing in common save the dark ensemble.

And yes, Cloud is emo, not as Emo as Squall (remember Squaw is a native american word meaning vagina) but still emo nonetheless
