saw the film last night...truly amazing to see the intellect and thought of the graphic novel work its way onto the big screen (sort of)
it wasnt as powerful of course, and it was a pity that the characters and certain events were dumbed down for those who havent read the comics. good to see dr. manhattan naked throughout...he IS basically god, why would he wear clothes? and who would try and tell him to..particularly coupled with his absence from the regular human thought concepts.
rorshach was amazingly played, tho it was a shame to see the 'villain' be so obviously played (tho very well acted) - in the comics i was stunned to see who it turned out to be.
overall...excellent, but id definitely say that anyone who hasnt read the comic should do so...or atleast if people havent, they shouldnt make any comments about things they dont understand  lol

i never read the book but the movie SUCKED i don't need to read a book to know that

the women WERE known though, silk spectre (the 1st) made a success from her identity.
im just so pleased they didnt pander to the ignorant masses, yet its still managed to become a huge success at the box office - record breaking amount of screenings for a R (18 for us brits) rated movie.
one of the problems i thought would be that they advertised it as another superhero action *...which it certainly isnt.

veidt was the clever man.
though her mother was known - she received fan mail etc, it was never mentioned whether her identity was known, as she wasnt really a masked hero anyway who needed to be revealed. however as nothing was really mentioned, you could be right -
the idea that people wouldnt know her identity is very dumb, as you say, anyone could just wear anything and say they are in a secret identity lol.

Watched the movie last night. Too long, that's one, a lot of stuff could be cut off or not even displayed. I mean, there was way too much pron in that movie, plus.. well the pron just made it all longer. Some really stupid comments came through once in a while. The only stuff I liked was that Rorshack was actually making this movie NOT boring enough to cplose my eyes and sleep. 5/10, is what I give for this movie.

I lol at all these comments from people saying the movie sucked... first I watched it in the IMAX experience (don't know if the rest of the world has it but it is a IMAX is a Canadian invention) and it was too good!
If you expect a superhero (aka X-MEN) movie you were in the wrong line (your line was for the less intelligent easily amused people who likey when thingies blow up and huge flashy lights) Ironically this movie had those things just not in the doses the general populace needed!
For any movie based off comic books you have to suspend disbelief to a certain degree. I mean come on, your either a homophobe or uncomfortable with your own sexuality if Dr. Manhattan's blue wang really bothered you.
This graphic novel was not meant to be a superhero novel, but a psychological critique on the minds of people.
2001:A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange these are the movies I would compare Watchmen to, not X-Men or Hulk or Batman(who isn't a superhero but some guy who dresses like a bat and runs around Gotham)

I probably went a little overboard and a little hostile, but you should not judge a movie based on other movies in other genres and really whether a movie is good or not is entirely on the viewer, so my opinion is my opinion and is not right for everyone. Some people like action some like romance some like horror... It takes all kinds to make the world go round!

finally...someone comes along to add some relief from the ridiculous drivel sprouted by people who really dont understand the source material at all. the 'pron' was originally neccessary in the comics to show the development of the relationship between nite owl and silk spectre 2 - he could only get turned on through use of his hero alter ego. true, it was too long maybe..but it was an essential essence.
and dr manhatten was naked because why would a god need to cover himself like a mortal.

I finally read the Comic book, and i have a problem with the ending...
Why would people hold this comic book so highly in respect to others when the ending was a huge disappointment.
The style, the narrative, the story all are dramatically changed for the last 10 pages of the novel in what appears to be a cop-out of making a conclusion that would have any sort of meaning. a dark, thought-provoking comic with mutliple storylines intelegently strug about the comic gets ripped apart by and ending that destroys what the rest of the whole book worked so hard to build up. and ending that would be more at home in a godzilla movie or a really bad James Bond knockoff movie rather than the deep comic that proceeded it.

To have the ending be a giant goddamed squid monster be the twist... and not to attack anything (that would be too cheesy) it just DIES and its death kills everyone in NYC....
Tell me EXACTLY how that fits in with the rest of the comic? tell me how that doesnt sound like an ending from a retarted sci-fi knockoff book.

yes.. thats great at the end how the bad guy didnt pull a cliche and tell the good guys his whole plan before it was too late... but it was STILL a cop-out as the whole freaking plot had to be explained by ONE character. the fact that if you read the last 10 pages of the comic you would be able to understand exactly what happened is a HUGE kick to the balls of the reader enjoying the previous pages.
I enjoyed the movie, it was a decent movie, a bit long but i enjoyed myself. thank god they made the ending not as retarded as the comic book and has at least a LITTLE semblance to try to keep within the mythos of the rest of the book.

i also do believe the ending used for the movie was a far better idea and fit in more with the flow of things.
however i guess it could also be seen that in reality, the result was more to do with the work of its times, maybe now we dont have such a fixation with sci fi themes but when it was made i believe it was far more of a popular theme. when id finished reading it i also felt a bit short changed, however iv found it really had grown on me to the point where i adore those last few pages (and some people are insanely in love with the squid idea)
guess that doesnt help answer the issue, but it really is a case of what you expect and taste in the end.
only pity with the new ending was the lack of utter carnage and dead bodies everywhere...was quite astounding in the comic to see the final chapter open like that.

i thought of a perfect example to show how utterly stupid the ending in the comic was:
Imagine your watching Starwars Episode 4 for the first time.
its an epic movie, with interesting characters and an excellent plot and storyline.
now imagine you watch this epic move, its one of the best movies you've ever watched, your drawn into the film and its detailed and intricate universe.
and you get to the end of the movie, and you see luke skywalker flying his x-wing to the death star to destroy it. the crew must destroy the deathdstar before it launches a Gigantic dead space squid that will kill everyone on the planet when lands.
yah, imagine Darth Vader telling Luke Skywalker exactly why the Squid should be in the movie even though it makes no * sense. a plot point that needs to be explained in detail rather than be inheriantly understood plot with no verbal communication required.
if you watched that, you would feel as if the ending was phoned in and did a disservice to the up to then excellent movie.
