In the Red and Blue version you can get an Eevee and evolve it with a fire stone, water stone, or thunder stone.

Well then, in the first anime series there is an episode where Team Rocket kidnaps an Eevee from a boy. In that episode the pokedex states how it may evolve to three known types.

It didn't evolve into any of them though. Of course, Eevee can evolve into five different Pokemon now.
