Final Fantasy III was the best ever
I still own the Kefka's Domain soundtrack bought from SquareSoft back in the mid 1990's. I wish they would remaster the soundtrack with real instruments, the 8 bit audio from Super Nintendo though unbelievably good would sound better if remastered now.

Final Fantasy III isn't all that great. Of course, the game you're talking about is FF VI. FF VI was okay but it's certainly not the best.

You are right it I think it was Final Fantasy 3 in America, for SNES.
Was called Kefka's Domain.
The open exploration of the game is what made it stand out.
Don't get me wrong, production value wise FF X, X-2 and XII are unbelievable, but they are much more linear in story and don't have the free form exploration.
Also, the story and character's were unique and really great. They all are good, but Kefka's Domain has a special place for me.

It's just FF III but with improved graphics. It's not as if they were planning to change the whole storyline to make it more exciting. In fact, they did with having to find the other characters. In the original FF III you started with all four warriors of Light which was even more boring.
