well... i cant wait you guys. ive got nothing to do, im wide awake so its time for an ff8-athon. ill count myself out of any real time race in march but my game hour clock should still count. soo pumped. havent replayed this in years. i know the first disc is gonna drag but after that it'll be smooth sailing.
as for side things. i always get all the gfs but um... what other extra awards were people thinking of? you know, so i know if i need to shoot for something like... fast player to lvl 100 or something.
alright. well im off. woohoo!
p.s. god the music takes me right back to when it came out in 99. seems soooo long ago.
edit: oh crap. out of habit i named squall, seifer. im gonna be soooo confussed all game lol.

well, its kind of up to everyone!
it will be hard to play through fast as youll get to a stage where you havent levelled up and it will be like "ARGH"
lionheart will take a while to get, unless you're lucky
gfs will help, but you wont have time to get them all.
you would have to be lucky to get the end: ive only ever had it once
its called ultima for a reason. its hard to get. theres only one place to easily draw it
where does the magic come from to make them junctioned?
one gf skill will save you.

ive always foudn that leveling up a lot in the beginning (not too much bc it everything takes far too long) by the time you get farther in the game and you dont run from any random battles or anything, you can get to lvl 100 without a problem and not taking a lot of time out of your way.
a good 10 min on the island of heaven and hell and you are golden... assuming you are junctioned well and are indeed ready... otherwise its just pain.

few things,
i think Pen means, encounter none i.e. bahamut!
i agree with you seifer, lvling up a tthe start!
i have a memor card on a safe at hom with squall, selphie and zell at lvl 100 with 100 fire, fira, and firaga!
the GFs they have at this point also lvl 100 and all abbilities learned! its awesome!
you get most of the way through the game before its a challenge,
thats why i think this speedrun wil be good for my ego, maybe knock me down a peg or two!
a little side note. i just started of course and i went through the seed test last night and you know the big spider machine thing that chases you on your way out, well i was under the impression you could only "defeat" it when you are on the bridge, but last night it was chasing me down the mountain (3rd area out of the communication tower) and it wouldnt let me escape and i eventually killed it. totally thought that was impossible.....
i was freaking out bc i couldnt escape like normal and the time was running out. everyone other time ive played (4-5 other times through) and this has never happened. i wonder what i did differently to kill it sooner.
thoughts/answers?
update: im at 2 hours and about 11 min. im on my way to timber to hook up with rinoa and i almost forgot to get the magic lamp from cid. so im like hmm should i do it now or what of course i saved and did it right away. i was completely unaware that you can draw curage, holy, flare and demi. soooo badass. im gonna try and draw as much as i can and then i will be rolling in the magicly functioning goodness.
also, when you pause (not go to the menu, but the actual pause button) the timer does stop. in battle and out of battle. the game time does however count an cut scenes and those can not be paused/skipped so nobody can get ahead by just skipping them. its all gameplay you guys. soooooo good.
another tip, using less gf's makes things seem to go faster. maybe not in the beginning but by the end of the game those 1-2 min gf summons are gonna add up.
