Democracy
In today's world, why is a direct democracy is only workable at the smallest levels and not at the state or national levels?

do you know what direct democracy is? if you understand the meaning of it im sure you understand why it is impossible in today's world...it's very simple actualy...there's no way a direct democracy could work in any state in this world...there are too many ppl for that, too many different opinion..the result would be only chaos

isnt that what you call testing? when you're curious about something so you do an experiment to see the results

i presume the reason democracy doesn't work because not everyone gets what they want, as stated before, too many different opinions, the majority will get what they want, but the others will be completly forgotten, second is, the people who come into governments are the wrong type of people to actually lead a country...
most people in governments say a lot, but do no deeds...
politicians generally just fill their wallets, and when eventually there's a good politician he'll be a danger to the others, so they'll have him killed or shut up...

Democracy will work if the people elected are competent AND just. This is true for all types of governments I think.

i found ur statement to be rather patronizing & conservative
in the united states there are many points in our government whereby those who serve to regulate, administrate, or govern are appointed or placed there by the citizen's vote (direct dem.), their directly elected superiors, or party loyalists (indirect dem.)
i strongly disagree with the notion that citizens shouldn't choose their federal officials directly

lol um sorry purin but thats not what im talking about...a direct democracy cannot work in any major state no matter how you try...it doesnt work even in the US...because thats not ppl of the US (all those milions citizens who live there) who propose laws and directly decide about them, its the representatives that do it for them...

lol ok i know where's the problem now....you are right that referendum and such are forms of direct democracy...however since the question wasnt specific enough i took direct democracy from a different angle, from its original meaning (and as such it doesnt work in any major state...only through referendums..i didnt think of that)...so id say we both are right....so as i said i was talking about something else before than you
