That is how they did it Tales of Symphonia too. You would see a monster out on the field, run up to it, and engage in battle.
That is another cool thing they could use.

yes plus in star ocean its hard to dodge all of them, in FF12W its kinda easy. dpeending on who your running from.

yes but you did get teh occasional storng enemy that has ranged hack attacks that kills your whole part right befor eyou hit the next area lol.

or more along the lines of FF10
*near dead and not enough poitons or MP to heal or not enogh time and run in to random encounter AMBUSH at the save crystal and get killed and have to load from an hour back of the game and watch the cutscenes and do everything again*

i finished Namco's Tales of the Abyss the other day and i got to say, i really enjoy those system where you can actually see the monsters on screen then you'retransferred into the battle scene the moment you teach em. I mean, those are more effective i think. To me, random encounter can be frusfrating at times...you're trying to solve the dungeon then viola, random encounter. Besides, everytime we travel, few steps, random battle, few steps , random battle. Not fun~ I'd rather see the enemy on-screen and more prepared to engage. Anw, probably the battle system in Tales of the Abyss is so much fun that i LOVE the battles~
