Actually its possible, taking the theory in Rinoa is Ultimecia...Squall might marry Rinoa and maybe have kids in the future.
I have a new battle system suggestion for FFVIII but thinking of the consequences of posting it in the forum (yeah, you've guess it right...LONG one rofl!), so I'll just keep it here *points to head*.
They could make Ultimecia appear before the end of the game XD

but yea the whole killing zell thing i wouldnt mind, used his limit a couple of times in the begining, but on my second run through, he was lvl 10 when i beat the game cuz i never used him XD hes really not that bad of a guy tho, not the brightest of the batch i would agree, but at least hes got good intentions

Well I'm thinking of Square changing the battle system during battles mainly...maybe its the stocking spells and too much rely on GFs makes FF players go crazy but I think there are ways to make them like this battle system...its by altering it.
I thought of allowing the characters to combine or merge temporarily with their respective GFs so their battle abilities changes completely. So sometimes random encounters will result in same height monsters with the characters or total gigantic monsters which could only be defeated by merging with GFs. But the characters can only merge with their respective GFs...something like:
Squall - Ifrit (basic), Pandemona (medium), Griever (ultimate)
Zell - Quezacotl (basic), Diablos (medium), Cerberus (ultimate)
and so on
So the GFs will have their own limit breaks and they will be part of the characters as well, its like having an alternative party which is stronger and BIG! And the GFs equipped to them will have certain upgrades to strenghen their attacks as well, instead of merely levelling up and learning abilities like GFHP+10%,SumMag+10%,etc.
Another system would be cool if included into FF8 is the Collective Combo system...ok I'll explain from the attacking. Unlike normal attacks, where we can only slash one time...the attack option are based on ATB bars. The higher the ATB bar, the longer we can attack repetively and produce one or multiple combos. What is ATB bar? ATB bar is the number of attacks you can perform during one turn, its divided into a weak, medium, strong and very strong attack...(Triangle, Square, X, Circle)..and they all have percentage of hits.
Triangle (highest HIT %..so its easier to hit...hardly misses but weak)
Square (sligtly higher HIT% than Triangle..medium damage)
and so on...Circle has the lowest HIT% but deals really decent damage
But the point is the more you hit the monster, all the HIT % will increase...its like you're locked on the monster making the character easier to hit next time. So usually we start of with Triangle, Square and to the next strikes. So instead of one lame gunblade slash, Squall will be slashing multiple times...and it'll be totally cool if all of them hits the monster.
But like I said the attacks are all ATB bar based, Triangle attacks consume 1 ATB bar while Square consumes 2 ATB bar and so on. At level 7, the characters will only have maybe 3ATB bars for each turn...so they can either perform combo attacks like:
Triangle (1ATB bar)+ Triangle (1ATB bar)+ Triangle (1ATB bar) OR
Triangle (1ATB bar)+ Square (2ATB bar) OR
Square (2ATB bar)+ Triangle (1ATB bar) OR
'X' (3ATB bar)
The ATB bars will increase as the character level up, so levelling up is important so you can perform more combinations of attacks which could result in special Attacks like..
Rough Divide (Triangle,Triangle,Triangle,Circle) - 7ATB bars
Fated Circle (Triangle,Square,Circle) - 7ATB bars
Blasting Zone (Triangle,Square,X,Circle) - 10ATB bars
LionHeart (Square,X,Square,Circle) - 11ATB bars
something like that...
wow dude those are some nice ideas, the second one sounds alot like a realtime sort of thing, but still with the whole atb thing which is awesome, allmost like FFX2 exept a little more fast paced and action oriented
the first idea is crazy man, merging with the GFs, i mean wow... that could get really intense really fast, expecially if you combine both ideas, ud have a bunch of giant monsters beating the crap out of each other lol thatd be crazy * man

that idea sounds awsome, that would deffinatly make a remake worth creating, several aditional features like that, better back ground story and more laguna (sorry, i just loved the laguna scenes, they're funny )
and with the newer consules it shouldn't even be that difficult, as long as they don't waste they're time on graphics but more on gameplay, cause i love the graphics of this game
i'd say improve or scrap the whole battlesystem...junction style is not so fun i think. Also, arrange the story again, include more cutscenes.. portray the relationship between squall and rinoa,

Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Circle - Rough Divide
but after he merges with Ifrit, it changes to Triple Fire Fist! Bing Bang Boom!
I forgot to mention about the Collective Combo System, where each character can accumulate around 25 ATB bars...so its like you collect ATB bars for each turn by using one single Triangle attack (1 ATB bar) and ending your turn so the remaining ATB bars will be stocked.
Once you're satisfied with the amount of ATB bars...you can select all the available combos (Rough Divide - 7ATB bars,Fated Circle-7ATB bars,etc) and perform them continuosly. Lets say, hmm...25 ATB bars..Squall can do two times Rough Divide and 2 times Fated Circle and they're all continously.
Maybe the GFs can perform a combo attack too, like Squall's:
They should follow FF X aeon system. It's like when u summon an Aeon, it'll replace ur entire party temporarily and you're able to issue direct command over the aeon, eg. attack, magic or even overdrive. Those stuff are cool which makes u feel that you're in control of the GF.
I think that FF9 could have a betetr battle system :/ i liked uitbtu it felt werid. and uhmm u miss alot of spells if you dont get the weapons and armor which sux :/

FFIX's battle system are from the pevious FFs I think, not really creative but they all have their flaws and virtues. Btw, we're discussing about FF8's battle system here.

and FF8 hadda weird one 2 :/ it was different then the othes, i didnt like how the ATB stopped when ou attack. and zell looks like a nerd hes kool ut he looks like a newd
