I hope this is NOT! true. And obviously, it isn't.
There was a HUGE hype around the Tech Demo of PS3 made out of Final Fantasy VII's Intro scene, and everybody continued screaming out "remake", when it was actually not.
My mind screams for a New Gen-Graphic remake of this great game, by my conscious RPG gamer self screams out a big fat "* You!" to Square Enix.
Final Fantasy VII NEEDS TO GO! It's over, finished. It has been exploited back and forth, on every freakin' possible game, in every freakin' possible platform. Leave it to rest! Final Fantasy VII was VERY important to some of us RPG Gamers, and it hurts to see it turn into such a money well to fool hardcore nerds and kids into continuously buy Final Fantasy VII merchandise. Riku is not amused!
I mean, imagine that it is you. That special RPG that you played as a kid (mine is Suikoden II). You love the game at first, you finish it, left you with that feeling of wanting more, so a prequel, or a sequel comes out. Up to this point, it isn't bad is it? Now imagine sticking countless prequels and sequels to a game that should've just ended already (since there was literally nothing else that was wrong with the world at the end of Final Fantasy VII).
I mean, everybody dissed Final Fantasy X-2 (when it was ACTUALLY a very well made, and fun game, and the ATB movements were actually quite well programmed and added a new depth to ATBs), but they're seeing THE Final Fantasy being bombarded with remakes, sequels, prequels, movies, OVA, GAH! I even saw someone say they wish an ANIME of it came out. Jesus Christ! What are they thinking?!
Not that anyone cares, but I'll make a promise right here and now. I will quit Square Enix games for GOOD if a remake for Final Fantasy VII comes out. Plus, I will start spreading the word of how BAD the company has became. I'm extremely fine with it, my favorite RPG series is MegaTen anyway.
Now that I have ranted, I will quietly remove myself from the room xD

What's wrong with that? DS would be able to run FF VII with the same graphics it had on PS1, if not better. Personally, I think that a remake will ruin the original game.

I don't think so as long as they keep the same story line and battle system (maybe make tweak the materia system differently) but I looked on bestbuy.com and they only mentioned Crisis Core and Advent Children so I'm guessing someone messed with the sign to mess with our heads.

The 16th is only a week away so we'd have heard if there was going to be one.

if the story is unchanged, i think it would be nice to see a all to gether more graphically apleasing game, i mean imagine how it would look now if u played it, the exact same game, just with todays graphic qualities? wouldnt u want that? dont get me wrong it had THE best graphics when it was released

That's the stupidest reason I've seen. They'd have announced it's existence at least a month before it's release for publicity. They won't just slip it onto shelves and wait to see if anyone notices it's come out.

well, from everything that I've read, its all just speculation. Square-Enix has only gone as far as saying that a remake is possible. no more, no less.
And to be honest, i'd love to see it remade for the pc, or any other system. I miss spending 90 hrs on a game, and still wanting more. Plus, its been 11 years since i played it. and to be honest i've forgotten most of the action and dialogue, and i'm left with a vague remembrance. Sure, i could run an Emulator, but its just not the same.
btw, here's the link with the info http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162613

It was released on PC. Unless I'm mistaken then the characters were also given mouths in the PC version so you could go as far as saying it is a remake.
