Upgrading server soon
Hello everyone, I am currently dead tired so I will make this message brief before hitting the pillow. You would think that I should just post this after I wake up, but I want to post now and get it over with  There is another hosting plan that my current host offers that offers a lot more functionality and space/bandwidth. The only problem is that I would have to move this site over to a new server and I am worried that the new server may lag. I thought about it everyday for a few weeks now and decided to take the risk since there is a chance the server may not lag and we would have all of the additional features.
I haven't planned on a specific date on when to upgrade, but I will keep you guys updated. There may be a slight downtime in where I will shut down the forums only to prevent you guys from posting on the old server and having it lost during the transfer to the new server. If all works perfectly, the downtime would only be a few minutes which is no problem. With today's faster computers they have made this task easier and faster so hopefully everything will work out fine. There shouldn't be any loss of data and most members may not even notice that the site has been moved. Thanks

Nope because you guys host your sigs from other sites. More space is for avatars, and other data that is stored on the server.

The avatars will stay the same, that was only one example there are a lot of different things involved that the space is used for. That is like buying a larger harddrive for your Xbox 360 so that you can fit more games and updates on it.

I'm not sure how big fun's files are for the rpg but most don't take up that much max would be MB but most are in the KB I have never seen an RPG file take up GB lol. its the bandwidth thats the real killer for games like that.
I haven't been around much slacking off  but none the less great news.

Just an update, I have been switching my other sites over as a test and man the new server seems faster than this one so far Everything is going smoothly, the final test would be that in order to setup the SSL license, I would have to transfer this site before they can install the license. So hopefully that will not result in any additional downtime.

More space just means that there is going to be X more space for anything that arises, not to mention that your personal galleries are stored on the servers and all the posts and all the other stuff related to maintaining a forum and game. I highly doubt new features as I haven't seen a chocobo race in forever (do people still do that? or is the service down:?)
anyway I say do it, it a forum man, a little lag is nothing, unless people get restless ans start double posting without meaning to.
As long as you are getting the best deal for the least amount of money, I say take any chance, you are hosting this out of your own pocket (depending on ads)...
Woot new server! Why encrypted connections though? Just so people cannot sniff from a client to the server?

Alrighty, if you can see this message then you are already viewing this site on the new server Some people may have slow ISPs which take longer to propagate the site transfer to a new server and are seeing a message now that the site is currently being transferred. Almost done, now the server admins have to assign a dedicated IP and install SSL and last time they kept screwing that up so hopefully everything will work out ok this time around. So far everything appears to be fast
