Upgrade Weapons?
Would it be cool if we could upgrade weapons? Like increase their attack or give it a effect such as IK or poison? Using rares or something to mix the cauldron and it would give you a new weapon with the ability or upgraded stats. And maybe there could be a chance for it to fail so your item disappears and you have to take a chance. Just an idea that came to me.

It wouldn't need a cauldron tip. Have it be something everyone knows but maybe won't do for fear of it failing and losing the weapon

it's been used as different enhancements in many games.
most games call it the refining process. where a blacksmith uses a rare gem of some sort to add damage, stat bonuses, or other weapon stats to the desired weapon. this is also applied to all armors.
normally I see things such as:
Wind Blade [random name before refinement]
Wind Blade+1 [random name after first refinement]
Wind Blade+2 [second]
and so on and so forth. normally the +1-+3 is a 100% chance to succeed and will add minimal stat bonuses as the refinement process goes above +3 and to +4-+9 the success rates start to drop from 100% at +3 with +15 damage to maybe 98.5% at +4 with +25 damage to 88% at +5 with +40 damage. and so on and so forth, each additional refinement losing success rate but gaining bonuses. also the amount of the rare gem needed to refine will increase with each refinement level.
though this is the basic idea of every game lol. sorry if I went overboard with it.
edit: and yes I know this is a 5 month old thread, but it's a good idea and deserves recognition.

although it is a really good idea for a game to have a feature like this, for the RPG on this forum its kinda a bit too much, each version of that upgraded weapon would require database space to store all its atributes, thus if u could add effects to weapons, each type would need space, so in the end u would have multiple copies of the same item, with different effects for the different copies. that would tae up far to much space for the game.
But yeah if it could be implemented it would rock

Everything´s said here, imagine 2000 items with 11 different varieties (like +0-+10), that would be huge O.O

also, you change weapons every 5 or so levels so i mean... youd be throwing rares away and just selling the items.
it would be better if we could upgrade the magic *cough*materia*cough*^^

yhea i like it too but think about it for a sec, if you had a level 10 rare weapon and you upgraded it to +6600000 damage, you could have a weapon stronger than the strongest weapon at only level 10. Since rares dont dissapear when you change classes. Same for normals since you could sell them on ebay and then the guy who buys it gets a whooping 99 easy levels, and so on with the next one who buys it. We'd all get all the awards in no time.
This comes from me thinking that you want to be able to have a level 1 weapon at level 99, not really sure if you mean having a cap, like +5, if it were that then itd be ok i guess, but itd sort of loose all meaning, since there are weapons for levels 1-99 for all classes, so thats why im thinking you mean unlimited, Im right arent I? (in that you meant unlimited enchanting).
But I like the idea, maybe we could twist it around a little so it would fit the already pre-existing RPG standards.
So with what I already said in mind, adding aditional damage to a weapon would be catastrofic i guess.... But adding status still sounds feasible, wether they'd be normal or rares.
So I say we do it, itd be cool to add something to enchant weapons with status effects ^^
