Troubleshooting (2nd hard disk) Help!
Troubleshooting for PC yeah. Previously I have only one hard disk (80GB), then I installed a second hard disk with a bigger capacity (160GB) - I set the new one as slave so I can format it. But the idea is the bigger capacity should be installed as Master, so I switched the IDE cables and yeah the Master's working well (it can detect the larger capacity hard disk) BUT now the windows cannot detect the slave hard disk.
I tried switching the hard disks again and yeah windows can detect both hard disks if installed in Master IDE cable. I tried entering the BIOS setup and configure the slave hard disk, but it still cannot detect the hard disk. Should I enter the CHS parameters manually OR is it cause I have to format the old 80GB hard disk?
If formatting the case, can someone tell me how to format the old hard disk - MS DOS or software help will do...

pm thorlord and youll have a faster responce. the man is top notch with computer stuff.
but it sounds like youd have to format everything and install windows on the new bigger drive if you want it to be the main one.
but dont go on my word, wait for thor lol.

it sounds like both are set to master.
i would take a look at your jumpers on the harddrive on your old drive to see if it is set to master or slave.

Argh, I knew it'll come to the jumpers. Sifu (master), I didn't connect anything to the jumper cable both the old and the new one. How do I know the old one is set to be Master or Slave? There're some numeric values indicated on the hard disk itself (jumper part), but I don't quite get it - cause there's nothing connected there.

usually there is an image just above the jumper part on the harddisk sticker. it should indicate where it needs to be to be set to slave
though many harddrives have an automatic jumper configuration. if it has it just set it to that so that you can set it to either and it wont have any problems in the future.

You're absolutely right, there's a small part at the jumper section - its set as Master or single drive. I've changed it to slave, its working fine now - thanks again!
EDIT: To dear mods, you guys can close this topic or leave it if there's anyone else planning to continue the discussion about hard disk.
