Thinking of making a mod for HL2
I got an idea for a HL2 mod.
it would be a horror/mystery game that may or maynot be multiplayer. i havent decided (though adding multiplayer would extend the life of the mod, but decrease the length of the game.. unless coop... hrmmm)
anyway. im going to be learning to work with the source engine. im wondering if any of you have worked with it before and have some pointers.
my current knowledge involves mapmaking in UT2k4 and about a year of C++ under my belt (that i should really be using more often so i dont forget it)
if i follow through with the mod it could be perty fun and would help me get my foot in the gaming industry.

why HL2? well after seeing what the mod Hidden: Source can do it kinda inspired me to go for the same graphical styling.
it had a Doom3 esque like feel which i thought wasent possible.

thanks. its an idea. and many of my ideas never reach frutation. but i hope i can find the dedication to finish something.
plus it would be really cool to bring up in a conversation:
"Yah i made the [Mod] mod"
"No way you lie!"
if i can make at least a good 1st working level and with some of the features worked in then i know i am able to finish the mod.

story? i duno.
i just want to make a horror game. as per story, i havent decided if its a murder or a mythical creature that is stalking the PC.
maybe both... i got the idea. and before i work on story i want to get the maps and part of the layout working.
if i can prove to myself that i can go that far. i will start working on the story.
i guess i could ask you guys:
which would be creepier. being stalked by a murder or a monster?

if i do make it work i will let everyone here be the first to know.
but dont count on seeing it anytime soon. it will take quite some time to learn how to make it and then build it.

GTKRadiant is a good, easy map-making program, if you (or anyone else) wanted to know.

i will take a look at that tool. thanks grilled!

No problem. Not sure if it can do HL2. I know Half-Life is supported though...but, figured I could at least suggest it...

I've made, never finished, but made a few maps. I've made multiple rooms & lighted them & such...my computer just isn't really...good. It has a Celeron Processor, and integrated graphics card, and I have 512 MB of RAM (for those of you that understand that).
So things work slowly & all, so the slowness gets to me. I'd be going through my map and it'd start lagging...this is why I want a job...so I can get a better non-n00bular computer...

I have been toying with the idea of building a map for Counter Strike: Source, but have been having trouble getting my mind around the Half-Life 2 SDK. Any suggestions as to where the best place to go and read things about this program are? My ultimate goal is to create a map of the building where I work. (The Chicago Cultural Center) Any help would be appreciated.
