the ultimate end of meaning
Just to get the science out of the way, im a big fan of physics. i dont do equations for fun or anything but i love knowing how the universe works. So as physics tells us, the universe is expanding forever. not only that but we are accelerating in its expansion. one would come to the obvious conclusion that after the big bang everything would slow down because of gravity. gravity, if there is enough stuff out there, would effect everything ever and eventually slow everything down to maybe even a stop, but this is not the case. theres a strange force that some refer to as dark energy (which is just a name, scientifically, nobody knows what it is but its just a name for the force that we believe is causing the expansion) and its forcing this acceleration and the expansion, which leads me to my point, that fundamentally, as we know physics now, that no life can exist forever. in the far distant future there will be no stars no planets no people, nothing but radiation, which is called a heat death.
it begs the question that if everything we do is pointless then how are we supposed to live? yes we have each other but man, the kind of thoughts that can go through your head knowing this kind of thing. its not a what if either, its science. everyone that has ever existed will wash away and be a constant temperature just above absolute freezing. granted we will be long gone before that considering the sun will eventually engulf the earth before it dies, but this isnt just earth, its everything. its crazy.
i just wanted everyones thoughts really, because this seems like a big issue that we have absolutely no power over. everything we have ever discovered or created will not aid us in sustaining life.
it is a terrible thing to think about for any length of time, but the good thing is that you should really appreciate other people more. how we can carry on daily and even though we are doomed with no reprieve, we still can find happiness. i find that comforting.
hopefully i didnt depress anyone.

i think i read something like that last year in my physics class...
it IS scary to think that sort of thing is going to happen and that we can do nothing about it...but as you said, we have other people around us and in the long run, when we have walked the long hard road of life, we'll be able to say "i loved, i helped, i met..." that sort of thing...it kinda makes it easier to accept we are going to turn into nothing someday ^^

i sometimes stand still thinking about it, not i nthe extreme long term where the sun will implode, suck in the earth and everyone here is doomed, but more in my own death, it kinda wants me to be a difference to this world, not to be forgotten, then again, sometimes i don't care if i'm left alone or not, so i dunno, i'm not worrying about it much...
knowing man kind, the world will be ruinend waaaaay before that'll happen...

true...but what if men started to conquer other planets as well? human kind is greedy *and i include myself too* people always wants to have more than they already do, maybe men will be stupid enough to go to other planets...and i say it'd be stupid cos we'd only end up destroying it...then again would it matter? all of this is going to disappear some day -.-
*hugs wingy* the only thing that matters is that you enjoy your time here wingy ^^ remember this thing called life comes only once ^^...or so they say 9_9

I kind of think about this quite often just not in a scientific way. I mean... when you really think about it what's the point of doing anything anyway? To satisfy your and other people's emotions? I'm a really antisocial person anyway but I really think a lot about stuff like this. Its actually pretty funny and entertaining most of the time lol

The time it will take for this expansion to occur in which life can't be supported is so far away that humans probably would be superseded in evolution.
I like to think that other planets will also be discovered that are capable of supporting life, probably in another galaxy that doesn't expand. I say life is here to be enjoyed and to discover things that cause an adrenaline rush, to live rather than exist. But whatever floats your boat lol.

haha aw *glomp*
Yeah I thought so but..you never know . That's not taking into account any disruptions caused by human activity. In the thousands of years we could be alive certain technologies could be developed to alter the solar system. I know that sounds impossible but I'm sure only 300 years ago they said we wouldn't be able to instantly talk to someone on the other side of the world in a video chat lol.

It's changing nature though. You have to remember this is the first time something big has happened any human lifetime. We'll learn to control it over time, hopefully.
In most cases there is always an overshoot before a correction is made.
