The Official Final Fantasy Unlimited info and review thread
Welcome one and all to your one-stop spot for all things concerning the Final Fantasy Unlimited anime series...I'm EmeraldSky, your resident reviewer.
What is FFU, you ask?
The story, according to ANN:
Ai and Yu, after reading their parent's research and after their parents' disappearance, they decided to go on search for them. They ride a strange train to the Inner World in search of their parents and meets up with Lisa in the train and together they begin their journey within the Inner World.
I will personally watch, review and post every one of the 25 episodes in the series, so if you like to be spoiled with details, you can read my reviews, but those of you with hi-speed connections can watch the episode yourselves if you want.
Episode 1 is on the way...

There are 25 episodes in all...and I'll be uploading them all plus transcribing what happens. (using the subs as my script)

Here's the synposis of Episode 1(spoilers ahoy):
Prologue:
Tokyo at night...your typical bustling city...until a column of purple light appears in the sky, making all electronics go haywire!
A team of scientists tries to figure out what this light is--but the leader, Joe, is frustrated: "This can't be happening!" he shouts.
People all over Tokyo try to get a look at the strange spectacle--but a lone woman, Marie, Joe's wife, stands on a balcony, recording the whole thing.
Joe is concerned about Marie's safety, but Marie insists on capturing the light on video. Suddenly, an explosion occurs in the column of light , and a great dragon appears--Bahamut.
Joe and Marie watch in awe as Bahamut flies away.
Various military personnel try to take down the strange dragon, but they're no match for Bahamut's Mega Flare.
As if things weren't weird enough--a silver sea serpent appears from a second portal--Leviathan.
Bahamut and Leviathan battle in the sky as Joe and Marie watch in horror. The battle is so fierce, it opens a third portal that leads to where these two monsters came--the Outer World.
(Cue OP, "Over the Fantasy")
The sky turns red from light of, setting sun...
Telling us that our journey, will begin...
We are already running, running towards our future,
My dreams are deep inside me--in my heart...
My dreams pass by me, yet my eyes--they already know them,
Show us the way, will you help us travel to our land?
Love, the never land;
Grant me faith and peace...
Give me the faith and courage, I may need.
We return to look on a beautiful sage gazing into a crystal ball. "Welcome to the outer world." she tells us. "My name is Fabra...your guide. The day of succession...yes...from the day the dark pillar brought confusion upon the world..." (the Bahamut vs. Leviathan match we saw earlier) "12 years have passed, and now a new journey has begun....a new meditation is about to begin."
We quickly zoom inside Fabra's crystal ball, where we look upon the rainbow swirls within. "Ah...that is no other than..."
The title appears, and Fabra reads it for us: "The Outer World-Those who journey into darkness."

Part 1:
We look upon the bustling city of Tokyo again, only now it's 12 years later. "Travellers no longer come here, it seems..." a girl comments.
"But, it disappeared again, along with the whole ship!" a boy protests.
"That pillar must really be connected to the Outer World." the girl muses as we see the purple pillar of light again.
"A lot of subway contruction workers have vanished too." the boy adds.
"It's been closed ever since then." the girl replies as to children run along the alleyways and streets.
"What will we do if we can't come back?" the boy worries as he follows the girl into the subway station.
"It's all right!" the girl assures him. "Since Dad returned more than once..." We learn that these two children are the children of Marie and Joe--and now the two children are looking for them.
The children wait on a boarding platform, but the boy is impatient. "It's not coming... he complains.
"We still have two or three minutes, right?" the girl assures her brother.
"Sis..you aren't scared?" the boy asks.
"We'e searching for our parents!" the girl explains. "How can you say we're scared?"
"I...guess..." the boy stammers, but before he can say more, a wind starts coming down the tunnel. "Sis!"
The wind is just the train approaching (in all its CGI glory)...and the girl is amazed. "It was real after all..."
"It's here!" the boy cries, but we don't know whether he's excited, scared, or both.
The train seems to pass the children at first, knocking them to the floor...but when they recover, the train waits nearby.
The children are a little scared at first--who wouldn't be, considering how this train has neon lights and "eyes" on it?
The boy watches as one of the "eyes" opens. "It opened..."
"It's pitch black..." the girl agrees.
They giggle nervously, until the boy asks, "Are we getting on?"
"Yes! That's why we came here!" the girl snaps. The argument is cut short by a bell ringing.
"It sounds like a departure bell..." the boy starts.
"This is bad!" the girl panics. "Hurry!" The two children race aboard the train, and it departs, en route to who-knows-where.

Inside the car, the children glance around, amazed. "This is a subway, right?" the boy asks. "Mom and Dad both rode this train, right?"
An older woman watches the children from another part of the train. After grabbing a cell-phone-like communicator, she reports: "This is Hatsufist...Right now..." Before she can say more, her connection is lost.
This scares the girl. "A human is on board!"
The woman is surpised that she has company. "Good evening..." she starts, trying to start a conversation.
"That smile is kind of suspicious..." the girl replies. "It's like you're trying to get on our good side...." The woman is a little surprised at this.
"Sis!" the boy cries, shocked at what his sister just said. "I'm sorry..." he apologizes. "You...are you ghosts who dwell in this subway?" he asks.
"You're the ghost, aren't you?" the girl asks.
"Sis, stop it!" the boy snaps. "We were thinking of going to the outer world to look for our mom and dad." he explains to the woman.
"Outer World?" The woman is confused.
"'That pillar of darkness leads to the Outer World...' it's written in a book my dad wrote." the boy explains, showing the woman the aforementioned book.
The woman reads it for a moment. "It's written in here that when traveling to the Outer World, they rode on this subway."
"When I researched it online..." the girl explains. "There was a rumor that it's possible to board this subway at 1:13 at night."
"I'm Yu Hayakawa..." the boy replies. "And my sister is..."
"Ai Hayakawa." the girl finishes. "Even though I'm his sister, we're twins."
"Is that right?" the woman replies. "I'm Lisa--"
"Why are you on this subway?" Ai asks Lisa.
"Eh...eh...that is..." Lisa struggles to think of an answer, but before she can reply, an explosion is heard, knocking them to the ground....and then they find themselves in the air!
"Are we floating?" Yu is a little afraid.
"Or are we falling?" Lisa asks.
When the group comes to a few moments later, Yu notices everything is still. "It seems as if it's stopped..." he notes. He looks outside, only to find that it's a long way down! "Is this the Outer World?"
"Our parents should definitely be here..." Ai assures Yu.
"It looks like we can go up..." Yu suggests.
"I'll go up!" Ai volunteers. "That's why we came here, isn't it?"
Hours later, Ai isn't so sure about going up. "How much further?"
"That's why we came, right?" Yu smiles.
"I think I see an exit up there!" Lisa calls.
"Lisa...did you also come to the Outer World to look for someone?" Yu asks.
"Boyfriend, I say..." Ai laughs.
"You can call me Lisa..." Lisa assures Yu. Ai is not impressed by any of this.
After a while, the group emerges from a rock. "We made it!" Yu calls, but is soon shocked by the scenery. "This place is...the Outer World?" he gasps.

Part 2:
The group glances around the odd city they've arrived in. "Is this really the Outer World?" Ai asks.
"It looks like a normal apartment district..." Yu notes.
"Except for the sky..." Lisa notes--the sky is an omnious red-orange. "Let's not wander around carelessly." she suggests. "I sense an evil presence."
Yu walks up to what looks like a slide. "This isn't even a normal playground slide." he notes. When he touches it, the slide turns into millions of bugs!
Meanwhile, Ai explores a building--or is it? "This isn't a building!" she notes. "It's entirely made of plants!"
Ai opens a door to find three bug creatures feasting on something--they glance at her, curious, but Ai slams the door. "I'm sorry!"
"What's wrong?" Lisa asks.
"This place isn't normal!" Ai replies. "This is definitely the outer world!"
Elsewhere, a strange cry catches Yu's attention. "Is something there?" he asks. He approches and sees a yellow bird scratching the ground. (complete with the Chocobo theme in the background)
The bird looks up at Yu, interested. "That's right!" Yu cries, reaching for a candy bar in his pack.
Yu tries to bribe the bird with his candy, but Ai is not impressed. "What are doing with our rations?" she demands.
The bird is more interested in Ai's hair, pandemonium ensues (with the Chocobo theme in the background), and Ai crashes into Yu, making the bird flee.
"Are you all right?" Lisa asks the dazed Ai.
"The fronts of my eyes are sparkling..." Ai is clearly out of it.
Yu suddenly remembers what the bird might be. "This might be the bird of happiness that lives in the Outer World, according to Dad's book...birdy!" he calls, running in the direction the bird fled.
"Wait!" Lisa calls, but Yu is already gone.
"Birdy, Did you see Mom and Dad?" Yu calls, but the bird is not to be found. He's about to give up when he trips on a tree root--or rather, a man's leg!
Ai and Lisa come running. "What's wrong?" Ai asks
"A person.." Yu stammers, pointing at the mysterious man hiding in the roots.
"Is he dead?" Ai asks.
Suddenly, the man awakens. "This place...where am I?" he wonders.
"That's our question!" Ai replies. "Did you also get sucked into the Outer World?"
"Outer World?" the man asks before turning thoughtful. "Is he here also?"
"Him...are you looking for someone?" Yu asks.
"Who are you?" Ai agrees.
"My name..." the man starts. "I have forgotten it."
The group sighs, frustrated. "That's not good." Lisa sighs.

Suddenly Yu spots an airship flying overhead. "What's that?"
"Looks like something we can ride on..." Ai notes
"Does that mean people are on it now?" Yu asks.
"No..." Lisa replies. "This dark, sickening flow of energy...it's not human!" No sooner does she say that does a crystal come hurtling at the group...and inside said crystal are mushroom monsters!
Lisa uses some magic to toss away one monster, but another stronger monster appears in its place! The group fles, but they are soon hanging from a cliff! It looks like the end for our heroes...until Lisa spots the man from earlier staring the monster down!
"Help us!" Yu calls...and the man obliges, revealing a magical gun under his cloak.
"It's my turn.." the man assures the group. he then calls "Soil, my strength!" The magical gun activates, allowing its owner to load it. "Demon Gun, dissolve!" the man commands.
The monster is not impressed, but the man continues: "I've chosen the Soil for the likes of you!" He begins loading the strange weapon:
"Origin of all, Mother Black!"
"One that burns everything, Fire Red!"
"One that is the critical point of all, Burning Gold!"
"This is a tremendous flow of energy..." Lisa notes.
"Burn! Summoned Creature, Phoenix! the man calls, firing the magical gun. The three colors mix together, and a beautiful phoenix appears, destroying the monster before flying away.
(cue victory fanfare)
"Amazing..." Ai comments as the group climbs to safe ground.
"I am...Unlimited." the man replies...
