The story focuses on Vincent's past story and present happenings, er...basically what I'm about to say will spoil your game if you're planning to play DOC. Basically when Meteor is about to hit Midgar, Cloud and the gang aids the evacuation team of Midgar - getting civilians out of the city. But Vincent senses there's a life form up at the Mako cannon so he went up to investigate, Hojo was there (dead or alive...?). But Hojo's body 'disappeared' when a lightning struck the cannon...then there was explosion and Vincent outta that freakin' blowing place with Yuffie's aid.
So it seems Hojo has a 'backup' plan, peace wasn't restored after the planet was saved by the cummulative lifestream from Meteor...there was another threat. After this the story will focus all on Vincent, how he met Lucrecia Crescent...how he's associate with her...how he turned into Hojo's experimental monster. There'll be some new characters like Shalua Rui (the scientist who created Barret's artificial arm), Rosso (villain who is after a Protomateria planted inside Vincent's body), Shelke, etc. Actually Vincent has this Protomateria as a gift from Lucrecia before the tradegy happen, this materia enables Vincent to control his Chaos form.
*sweat drop*...someone please continue from this point. +_+ I'm telling you, maybe my explanation really will spoil your game..

I'll continue for you, Leon!
Anyway, It's 3 years after final fantasy VII(and 1 year after Advent Children if I'm correct), and dark secrets about Shin'ra are still being discovered, one of which is an undergroung city place called 'Deepground'. This is full of elite soldiers. There are a group of the soldiers called the tsviets(Rosso being one of them). And they are unleashed onto the planet with two goals: capture all pure life to make a pure lifestream, and kill all the rest of them.
(or as Weiss puts it: hunted down and exterminated. They shall be slashed, strangled, and slaughtered. Beaten, stabbed, and crushed. Garroted and impaled. Shot and executed without mercy.)
The reason for this is to awaken Omega early. Omega is the being that takes all the life of the planet to somewhere else in the universe. And Chaos(the monster in Vincent) is supposed to be "his squire to the lofty heavens". But Vincent and the rest of the gang are trying to protect the planet and keep it from dieing. So Vincent goes into the Deepground head quarters to kill Weiss and stop the awakening of Omega.
phew.... alot to write, but kinda fun to write. lol!

It was more like "awakened" than "unleashed", since he's like a being inside the planet like Chaos is a being inside Vincent.
Major spoiler here...
Yes, he is awakened in the end. But since everyone lives happy ever after, I think you can gather what happens... lol!
Oh, and all of the members of Deepground, especially the Tsviets, are spawns of a SOLDIER only known as "G" in the Dirge of Cerberus game. But I'm sure everyone knows who this "G" is. You learn this through of the three G-files you collect in the game.
