Teen Pregnancies
There are officially 13 girls in my school that are pregnant. 4 of them are seniors, 4 Juniors, 3 sophomores, and 2 freshman.
What is your view on teen pregnancy? Please don't put anybody down, and remember that there may be teenage mothers on this site. also, please explain why you believe this.

I think its more than possible for a women to be emotionally mature enough to have a child at that age buuuut, financially most are not and its simply a burden on them and their family. its a fact for our society and the way things revolve around money.
I also believe that most are simply honest accidents or human error in birth control, which is unfortunate but all these things should be made more clear in high school. the idea of a high school that only teaches students to abstain from sex is quite frankly, stupid. It's going to happen no matter what so you (as a learning institution) should do what you can to prepare the youth for the future (<- the real purpose of a learning institution.)
after that... there is always adoption but thats a different topic.
thats all ive got to say on the topic i think.

...I agree...unless you can spare about 700 dollars a month on your kid(s) at grade 8, don't bother...
...however, in the past people were encouraged to give birth at an early age so you can have more kids in your lifetime...and back then, things were simpler, and reasources were plentiful to go around...

also, life was much shorter, so after about 8 kids, you were out of the game for good. i mean, back in the 1600s, a woman of 23 was nearly middle-aged. Granted, the lifespan of a woman has gone up a lot (last i heard the life expectancy of an average non-smoker, non-drinker woman was about 68 or 70), but there are so many teenage girls doing it just to keep the guy they're with, and it doesn't work either way.

Why focusing on the financial side when there are other important aspects to consider as well? Money is very important of course to cover the material needs of the child, but I think the baby’s health is more important, and babies born to teenage mothers are more likely to suffer health problems more than other babies. Not forgetting the mothers themselves, they will also suffer from pregnancy complications more than the other mothers do. The teenage mother being emotionally mature won’t prevent the physical complications. Also don’t forget it will be accompanied with lower educational level, because girls will drop out of school to take care of their babies which will be a huge challenge and a lot of responsibility.
So personally; I think teen pregnancy is either a result of lack of responsibility or is simply a mistake and neither of them was able to prevent it. If a teenage girl ended up being pregnant then she is going to need all the support she can get from her family and friends. The really stupid thing would be if a girl chooses by herself to get pregnant at a young age, which is unfortunately something that does happen.

Well my opinion is the parents should be part of the solution as well. You can't rely on a school to give kids the right information since so many schools only teach abstinance. Its like the episode of family guy with the christians feeding kids lies about premarital sex (yes you can take some good lessons from that show too). I've been more interested in abstinance because my parents told me all they know about sex...and mom's a Maternity Nurse and she's introduced me to teen mothers...and she's also seen the complications first hand.
Then there's the girls who do everything they can to get pregnant. You know the ones seen on Maury saying they'll give their kids everything (not possible). I've even seen girls on the news who'll poke holes in condoms and do such and such so they can have babies...in my opinion those girls are idiots.
As for the ones who get pregnant as a result of broken condoms, forgetting birthcontrol pills, being pressured by their guy into unprotected sex (happened to a friend of mine) they should have taken more care but in either cases I hope the pregnancies go without complications.
Then of course there's the fathers of these kids...its rarely the father will help the mother of the baby or care about the baby. The fathers that do want to stay should disregard this next statement.
Again if you're a responsible male with the courage to take care of your kids then disregard the previous statements. In fact I have alot of respect for males that will take care of kids they have whether intentional or accidental.

Granted im in a select part of the country but my mom is a nurse in OB (where babies are born in the hospital) and the amount of fathers that do step up and take responsibility is pretty high. and even more so the ones that dont are usually just older guys that are crazy. most "kids" (aka the ones that come in to sign the birth certificate but have no form of ID other than a school id) are the ones that step up to the plate.
I cant help but think that if parents were a little better at... parenting, we would have less cases of young women purposely getting themselves pregnant for stupid reasons. seems like a lack of a quality role model that should be provided via the parents. of course thats just me thinking and there are sooo many factors to take into consideration for this topic.
