Summarised No Sphere Grid guide
Useful Mixes
Super Mighty G- any 2 distillers mixed together- grants Haste, Protect, Shell and Regen to all characters
Hyper Mighty G- Door To Tomorrow/Gambler’s Spirit/Wings To Discovery/Underdog’s Secret + Chocobo Wing
Quartet of 9- Door To Tomorrow/Gambler’s Spirit/Wings To Discovery/Underdog’s Secret + Lvl 1/ 2 key sphere.
Trio of 9999- 2 x Door To Tomorrow/Gambler’s Spirit/Wings To Discovery
Or Door To Tomorrow/Gambler’s Spirit/Wings To Discovery/Underdog’s Secret + Lvl 3/ 4 key sphere.
Sunburst- 2* Underdog’s Secret
How to get items:
Distillers- any shop in item section from the first time you’re in the airship.
Lvl 1 key sphere- you can get up to 5 in Mi’ihen Highroad (you get 2 from knocking the Chocobo Eater off the cliff)
Level 2 key sphere- you get 1 or 2 from Spherimorph. Other bosses drop these as you progress through the game. Common drop from Defender Z
Level 3 key sphere- rare drop from Defender Z, dropped by several bosses (e.g. Yunalesca)
Level 4 key sphere- get up to 6 in Omega Ruins, dropped by Flux etc., rare steal from Earth Eater.
Door To Tomorrow- capture in 6 areas (unlock Catastrophe).
Gambler’s Spirit- capture enough in 6 species (unlock Th’uban)
Wings To Discovery- win the remiem temple chocobo race getting 3 chests and no poles.
Underdog’s secret- get 99 from Rin if you have all 26 al bhed primers- use compilation sphere.
*Petrify Grenades- steal from Basilisks
** Stunning Steel- buy from O’aka in Luca.
Sonic Steel- buy from O’aka in Macalania. Alternatively, customise First Strike on a weapon using a return sphere.
*Petrify Grenades are totally optional, but make Home much easier to get through.
** Also optional, makes Extractor easier.
Bosses: (I will only mention from Mi’ihen onwards as you should not have any problems before that)
Note that when I mention attack reels, you need to win it from BB and it refers to a perfect AR when used. Also it is expected that you can do the cloister of trials and get the destruction sphere treasures.
Chocobo Eater: Just keep attacking and healing, fire is effective. If you want the extra Lvl 1 key spheres, you must knock it off the cliff so heal him if necessary.
Sinspawn Gui: Use Kimahri (lancet), Wakka, and Lulu to kill the head as quickly as possible. Once it’s gone, switch Wakka for Auron. Have Kimahri and Lulu use lancet/fire on the body while Auron hit’s the arms while hitting the body when the arms have disappeared. During these brief periods, you can simply use attack with Kimahri. Note that Overdrives penetrate the arms defence so aim these at the body.
For the second fight, Seymour makes it easy.
Extractor- use the stunning steel to slow it if you have it, then switch to lightning strike weapons if you have them. Keep attacking and healing when HP is below 200. Save your overdrives for when it’s preparing Depth Charges as you need to do 800 damage before it gets another move in. Aim to get Lightning Reels.
Spherimorph- Party of Yuna, Auron and Lulu. 2 strategies:
1. Auron attacks, Lulu casts the opposite element, Yuna casts cure when necessary until it dies.
2. If it uses fire/thunder summon Ifrit/Ixion respectively and keep attacking normally.
Crawler: Use the stunning steel if you have it to slow Crawler. Keep attacking it normally, do not harm the other machina and you will get harmed very lightly. Use potions to heal.
Seymour+Anima: If you have a petrify grenade, use it to instantly kill the 2 guados, if not, use the normal strategy of stealing from each and then hack them down the hard way. When it comes to actually fighting Seymour, try and manipulate the timing so the first element he uses after Anima is ice (the pattern continues as if Anima was never summoned). When Anima is summoned, summon ? (shiva) and use blizzard/Blizzara to heal. Try and kill it with a normal attack when you have full overdrive. Needless to say, use shield against oblivion. If Shiva survives to see another turn, do Diamond Dust for major damage. If Seymour still isn’t dead, you will have to do a bit of juggling, if it is about to use Multi-thundara, summon Ixion if possible, attack until your last opportunity before the next turn Seymour has after the thunder, and then do Thor’s Hammer to kill him.
Wendigo- have plenty of Phoenix Downs handy, use a petrify grenade or steal and slash the guado enemies to death. Get Yuna to cast Esuna on Wendigo to remove berserk. You can also use Wakka’s Dark Attack and then summon shiva to take a good chunk of its HP off. Keep attacking and reviving as necessary and you will eventually win.

Evrae- simply get Rikku to mix a sunburst using Rin’s Underdog’s secrets. Wait until you get a second opportunity and do it again.
*You can steal bomb cores to make fireproof armours in the airship for the 5 fights afterwards. The machina can be blinded.
Seymour Natus- again, get Rikku to mix a sunburst and then another to kill it.
Defender Z- mix trio of 9999 and use slice and dice (and another attack) or attack reels or a 7 hit fury.
Seymour Flux- Mix Trio of 9999 and use slice and dice (blitz ace if you somehow have it) and attack reels.
Sanctuary Keeper- Trio of 9999/Quartet of 9+any multi-hit overdrive (at lease 4 hits needed)
Spectral Keeper- Trio of 9999/Quartet of 9+any multi-hit overdrive (at lease 6 hits needed)
Yunalesca- Mix trio of 9999, kill the first form with normal attacks, second form with slice and dice/fury and the third with attack reels.
* DO NOT HEAL ZOMBIE STATUS
** It is highly recommended that you get the sun crest before permanently obtaining the airship, especially if you do not have the NA version.
*Geosgaeno- trio of 9999 plus any multi-hit overdrive (at least 4 hits)
*Optional boss, but recommended for Anima and I will use her for strategies.
Sin fights: For every fight apart from Overdrive Sin, just summon Anima and use Pain from far distance for a safe win. For Overdrive Sin, use Trio of 9999 and use attack reels and either normal attacks or any multi-hit overdrive when it gets close enough.
Seymour Omnis- Trio of 9999+ Blitz Ace/Attack Reels.
Braska’s Final Aeon- Auto-phoenix/Stoneproof armours help a lot. Party of TWR. Mix Hyper Mighty G and then trio of 9999 and then attack both Yu Pagoda’s once. Best case scenario is Rikku gets killed after trio of 9999. Use slice and dice when both YP’s are down to leave the first form with 6 HP. Keep doing trio of 9999 until Rikku gets hit (and consequently dies), switch Wakka for Yuna who summons Anima. Attack to take it into second form. Keep attacking until you are about to die and then use oblivion. Finish it with Blitz Ace/Attack Reels.
* If you are willing to put in the hours, there is a very easy way of beating everyone from Sin onwards by using the Aeon’s soul. I will put this in the next addition should other optional boss strategies be wanted.

yes, especially if you want to max game afterwards. If you forget the Sun Crest in the PAL or International version, you will have to beat Dark Bahamut to get it again. I would often use celestial weapons when capturing in NSG because of the inherent ability to ignore the enemy's defence. Also even when not capturing, the Caladbolg has Evade and Counter which makes it easier to survive.

The Ribbon armour ability isn't in the NA version.
The NA version quick hit is 12mp and rank 1 (fastest group in the game) as opposed to 36mp and rank 2.
Penance (following the dark aeons)
There's no Distil [sphere] weapon abilities.
Oblivion and Delta Attack are only one hit in the NA version as opposed to 16 and 6 respectively (this means these overdrives will never do more than 99999)
I know theres more, but thats all I can think of.

I cant believe beating the game without the sphere grid is even possible. How do you beat the water flan in besaid for one? I had to train up for hours on the al bhed ship before tidus could beat that water flan..
I dont think its even possible to get out of besaid without using the grid..

the one were your supposed too use lulu's thinder :/ uhmm.....u had to lvl p on the salvage ship? u shouldnt even need to us epotions for like the first 4-5 bosses :/ ...well the first 2 u dont have to really do much of anything sept attack :/ and he third is i think sins fin.....yea the first three you should have down w/o potions so how can you not beat a water flan?

When i used lulu it did like 2 damage.. which is even worse than tidus measley 13 damage.. i just escaped the battle for any other water flans..
