stem cell research is awesome.
its not abortion.
its actually giving a use to dead pre-babies.
and it will make humans immortial.
ok the last line is a lie, but the research will help cure diseases and lengthen our lives.
i give a large Kudos to Stem Cell research. its moving this country foreward into a new technological age.
unlike the government who wants to ban it because poor people are having abortions because they cant affoard to bring up a child in this world.
odd fact:
When poverty decreases, abortions decrease. to abolish abortions, get rid of poverty. (ok there will still be a few idiot teens, but not nearly as many abortions as we do today)
but rather than attack the source of the problem. the government is causing a problem, and destroying the solution.

Im pro stem cell research, the applications for benefits far outway the costs. the only thing that holds us back is the governments being gripped by the religious groups. they believe that we are ensouled at conception as if its a specific point when actually its a process that occurs over a period of 24-48 hours plus how many blastocysts are naturally miscarried or aborted in the womb? does that count as murder too? just like the period of embryonic development that causes the problem with abortion. people thing in black and white when so much of the world is a grey area. the fact is we choose when the line should be where the benefit outways the cost ie aborting an unwanted or unsupportable feotus over killing a viable baby.
I dont mean to slag off peoples religious beliefs, if you have them fine, believe in god use it as your guide to life cause thats what religion is. a moral guide to how we live our lives but they shouldnt get involved in mans politics, try and force their beliefs on others or hold back a better life because of rules that were made that dont apply anymore.

as ive heard many times, it doesnt matter so much what you believe but as long as you do believe.
religion was made to keep people in line. period. its to support social norms and its just another institution like school or the govt or the freaking DMV. red tape everywhere just like with stem cell.
but im not gonna make this about religion. lol

How can you not make this about religion? lol the whole arguement for pro and con is wrapped in religion! you cant avoid it! Basically this topic wouldnt be a hot subject if it werent for the religious outcry against it! lol
Itd just be another everyday operation like transplants

oh i know. the topic was originally intended just for ppls thoughts on its applications. but yes, the reason it is in the situation it is is because of religion. i cant stand the idea of religion stoping any kind of technology. or anything really. it should not only be seperate from state, it should be seperate for everything.

well not totally separate from everything because then we wouldnt have any idea what we could apply it to, most developments come from pre existing technology. but religion shouldnt have a say. science self regulates itself with its own stringent guidelines it doesnt need any more from groups that have no understanding of the process anyway.
And yep i was a science major. lol

but there is no instituion that relies on religion that i can think of. religion just relies on everything else. we cane have morals and values without religion, we just like to have a higher purpose for being good lol.

Well religion was also a first attempt to expalin why were exist. and humanity being as egotistical as it is assummed that it works like they do ie that since they made things to do a job anything else that looks likes its been made to do a specific task had to have been made by something with its purpose in mind too and what better than an even bigger human? And one that made humans in its shape to rule the world? lol
Plus God as being male only really came into being when agriculture came along and men could control women more before when women shared what food they gathered with men there was predominantly maternal gods. lol but now im really getting off topic.
