This is something that irritates me. Advent Children was NOT good. The only reason it's so popular is because it's got the characters and places from FF VII in. As for villains, they've just appeared from nowhere without even a hint of their existence in FF VII.
Spirits Within was a good film. It never said it was set on Earth, so that point is completely moot. It was a completely original idea, unlike AC. It's an FF as much as any game after the first FF. None of them are set in the same world or time period (except FF XII and FFTA), meaning the "It's not a FF" whining meaningless.
If anyone can actually give me an unflawed argument about why SW's a bad film then I'll give them 10, 000 gil.

...but I have to agree from your perspective that AC was not very good...64% of the time was used up by fighting in some way (if you cut out the credits) and there wasn't a very strong plot...people just didn't like SW because it did not seem to relate to any FF...but it does! If you've played FF9, it seems that the spirits relate to the "spirits" or so identified as the "friendly animal" in FF9...this was proven when you first fight ozma and the message comes telling you that the spirits you have "gathered" extends your range and that's how you are able to hit ozma...

If Spirits within had been a standalone movie it would have been good...but I couldn't help but see it as a final fantasy...and that's really my only argument against the move as a Final Fantasy movie it wasn't good but on its own it was a really good movie with excellent effects.

Flawed argument. It's an FF in it's own right, just like every FF after FF I. The only difference is that it's a film rather than a game.

i recently just watched the movie again and yeah. the final fantasy name was in there because at the time nobody had really done a full cgi movie that wasnt cartoon based (to my knowledge) and the only way to really get people to see it was to put the ff name on it.
the movie itself, its really pretty enjoyable. some great voice actors that i forgot were in it.

I liked the movie a lot, but It didn't fit in with Final Fantasy, Advent children is a Final Fantasy movie but Spirits within didn't have the same feel to it, nevertheless it was a good movie .

I have heard that spirit within would be get more popularity of the public vote than final fantasy. I think that It is right, I have seen that movie couple of days ago. It had been so complex and also terrible sound. I liked spirits within movie.
