Sony has lost over $3 billion on the PS3
Sony revealed that they've now lost roughly $3.3 billion (that's billion with a B) on the Playstation 3 since its launch. Who will believe that though they have their own reasons.

It was obvious from the start they were going to make a loss on it. The only exclusive titles worth buying are MGS4 and Final Fantasy XIII. They're pretty much the only games people will bother buying a PS3 for.

that plus they lose money on every console sold. it is just to be expected. the only way they could have had a profit this early on is to have sold 20 consoles and ripped off the early developers making the launch games with the licensing fees.
they paid 3.3billion for the licensing and rights to the next movie format though (Blu-ray), which will bring in much more dough than the PS3 ever will.

mhhh ever will, yhea you dont have to have much imagination to understand your point. Its sort of ironic, before launch i thought they'd kill the competition, I knew those were the only launch titles that were worth it but I expected better games to come in and earn back some of that cash fast, and force more ppl to buy a PS3 (and more PS3 software x person).
Personally im getting one for Disgaea 3.
PS: Not to sound sarcastic, you know 3w and www is just one letter short.

i heard they have no plans to drop the price this year
i guess the 45 nm chip process is not gonna happen this year
when it hits $299, i'm all over it

I think I read somewhere that although Sony has lost $3B on the PS3 that its costs were offset by the profits the PS2 made during the same time meaning that Sonys game division is more or less financially ok.
Anyway you have to spend money to make money and atm Blu ray is looking very good to be very profitable soon and im sure thats where Sony make there money back.

more than likely when the 45nm chips hit, you wont notice as they will use that extra influx of revenue to offset the cost of manufacturing the unit in hopes of breaking even on debt.
a $299 PS3 while attractive, probably wont happen for a year or two.
