I just watched the original Stargate again like 2 weeks ago. how does SG1 fit into it? Like how did they adapt it from the movie?

It fits amazingly well from the original movie. It continues the plot and story and extends the world without making the original movie look irrelevant.
I've been watching the series for about 2 weeks solid. I'm only In season 4.

so a while mag stappy got me into stargate. I had seen the movie and im big into science generally and the whole show i had heard about but never really gave it a chance. like yourself i went though season 1-6 in about a month. then i tapered off bc of school but eventually finished the rest, along with atlantis, the two other stargate movies with the tv shows cast and theeeen i got hooked on stargate universe. I have comcast cable so its all ondemand, or most of it so i can just watch the newer ones that way.
stargate universe is very much a soap-opera in space. its got the science, its got the effects and worlds youre used to in stargate, but its more character driven and there is an overarching story plot for each season. i never felt that way with sg1 until the last 5 episodes of a season or something. universe has some great acting, none of them are known actors/actresses so its easy to really get into it you know. i recommend it. oh and whoever does the sound editing/audio mixing for stargate universe, i wanna high five them and then take their job. love it.

its like a soap opera?
that is gonna kill it for me XD
i dont like it when tv series forget what they are about and get TOO into the characters and the drama, like how buffy started off good and ended up liek that, like most long runnign series (btw im basing buffy being "good" from when i was in middle school so no hate mailXD)
but, it doesnt sound that bad at least from what youre saying
and no known actors?
i thought i saw robert carlyle in the commercials o.0
unless he is less known in the states than the uk

no your right, there are some known ppl and he's one of them.
and soap opera was a bad example, as they are done with a negative production budget and the worst writing ever.
stargate universe has great writing and has high production value. give it like 3 episodes to grab you. some characters you like in the beginning you end up hating and vise versa. its a good time. its only on season 2 as well so its not too much catch up.
