This becomes less and less true as the game progresses in my experience. While farming on gran pulse Fang far overtook Lightning as a Commando.

I tend to start off fights with his Synergist, then switch him to Ravager or Commando dependent on the situation. Flamestrike + Enfire causes some very serious damage to foes that are weak to fire, so I'll definitely go ravager if there are some of those around. If there are large hordes of enemies I'll switch him to Commando because IMO his Blitz is the best. Reguardless of his role though I find myself always with another Commando, usually Snow, because Sazh lacks the Launch ability. I really enjoy playing Sazh because personally he is the only Ravager I can really play properly, his Blitz is amazing, even against single foes, his Synergist is absolutely the best, he learns Haste so much sooner than everyone else, and he has all four En<insert element of choice here> abilities. The only other character I really enjoy playing as more than Sazh is Snow, and that's because he's %^&#ing invincible.

Yeah yeah, double post, I know. But I think I've figured something out.
I know multiple people who have been struggling with the healer AIs, and lately I've started to run into this a bit myself. I started paying more attention to my healer to see what the hell he/she is up to. After a bit of examining I think I've discovered the reason. Esuna. I'm standing there crippled, as in red hp, and poisoned. I look to my healer, Hope, and he is casting Esuna to rid me of poison when I'm almost dead and there are three guys attacking me. I die. Nice one dude. So I definitely think that the Medic AI is over-prioritizing Esuna. I'm not sure how to fix this though, I'm not sure if anyone has missable Esuna (like on one of the side branches), or if it would even be a good idea to pass it up if it was missable. 
I hope this helps somebody, because I know quite a few people that are having this issue, and I'd like things cleared up before someone sends Square a bunch of hate-mail.

i have the issue whereby if i have two healers with raise and a dead person they both cast raise at the same time wasting one raise and ATB segments that could have been used for healing
