If u follow the story line u will automatically get a side quest that u wont know about it starts when u reach the calm lands for first time and go to that item shop to save and stock up a monk will come and warn u he knows wakka and lulu from that point dark eaons wil be released in game to kill ya (ONLY IN EUROPE VERSION i think) if u defeat al dark eaons which is pretty though cos you can t even hit them or kill them whitout very great status and good playing (tactic) or whit perfect status.
some dark eaons even need aim to hit them and they al can do instant dead to 1 or all members whit an att or overdrive. And when u defeat all dark eaons the true enemy appears it is PENANCE he is impossible to defeat almost. you need al charcters celestial wapons you need ribbons on armor and walk trough whole sphere grid and clear the weakest spheres that gives you +1 or +2 .

START WHEN U HAVE AIR SHIP TO FLY
1 DARK VALEFOR - BESAID VILLAGE GO TO THE GATE U WIL RUSH IN A MONK WHO SUMMUN IT (better have yuna not in your party someone whit first strike then switch to yuna and summun an eaon cos valefor starts whit ful overdrive auto kil whole party.)
2 DARK IFRIT - SANUBIA DESERT WEST A WOMEN WIL SUMMUN HIM U SPOT HER BESIDE THE FORMER AL BHED HOME PASSAGE. Talk to her say yes i find ya child then the battle wil begin after another visit to ravine in north.( this eaon is pretty weak whit only 1,4 mil hp and no ful overdrive just have fire eater and only get trouble if he reach his overdrive cos it has non elmental damage)
3 DARK IXION - TUNDER PLAINS NEAR SPHERE GRID U SEE SOMEONE HE WANTED TO KIL YA AND SUMMUN DARK IXION.(this is real hard ixion is fast uses much att in short time AND IT COUNTER ALL ATT if u can kil him (wil be hard) it wil att again whit full blood :S luckly after u kil it jump to save point don t save or u start over again and then fight him for second time then he is slower and has no counter after u killed him 2 times you won for real  .

if u killed those 3 eaons or have trouble killing one i wil post next 3 or a good strategy to kil them but for now try it i won t ruin fun to tel ya how to kil it right away .

Don't multi-post. For Dark Valefor, a 255 strength attack reels should kill it. Dark Aeons are also available in the "International" version. They don't need anywhere need max stats (not status), I've beaten the first 4 without using the sphere grid at all. Please use correct spelling when typing these. Stats would also be appreciated.

Just farm them off Dark Yojimbo (I can also beat him without the sphere grid or zanmato)

to kil yojimbo whitout sphere grid u need some real good playing cos you got to defeat him a few times so you can t relay on your luck 
I am trying to defeat al monsters again whitout sphere grid and got into much trouble but finally killed him . kinda hard but i keep relaying on celestial wapons or own made many overdrives and some times a gf the 1st time i did whitout gf s only to took overdrives from dark yojimbo but tooked me quite a while. i suggest you use armors from other dark gf s and have yuna to keep healing party if you get into trouble let rikku mix a few things double hp wil be helpful and double overdrive to. but i would say have celestial wapons and keep using gf overdrives to kil him easly if you get troubled or u wil die alot .
alrady playing 30 hours extra only at magasus sisters an didint complete monster arena jet its hard whitout ya spehere grid

I love my Anima.
HP: 54000
MP: 1000
Str: 255
Mag: 200
Agi: 255
Def: 255
knows haste, curaga, cheer, focus, protect, ultima, doublecast and a few others.
All without touching the sphere grid.
Cheer*5 plus shield means zanmato only does about 35k damage. Easy.

That's what I meant, those stats are by brute force use of the aeon's soul. Not even Yuna's sphere grid was used. Quite a lot of luck involved with half of them. I won't go into great detail.
Dark Valefor- party of W/R/A with first strike, W/R and Yuna/Anima with full OD. Rikku mixes trio of 9999, Wakka does attack reels perfectly (12 hit), Auron switches to Yuna who summons/grand summons Anima and does oblivion when strength is manually raised to 255 (aeon's soul)
Dark Ifrit- too messy and luck-based for an explanation.
Dark Ixion I- too messy and luck-based for an explanation.
Dark Ixion II- Have Evade and Counter on your weapons, summon before Thor's Hammer.
Dark Shiva- Luck-based. Party of Rikku, Tidus and Wakka all with First Strike. Rikku switches for Yuna. Summon, haste, attack (hit or reset), DS attacks (reset if regular attack), attack (hit or reset), oblivion, DS hits you hard, oblivion, Anima is killed, Tidus switches for Rikku, does trio of 9999 and Wakka does a perfect attack reels. Anima needs 45k+ HP, 255 strength, 255 defence and 170 agility.
Bahamut- essentially just trio+Attack Reels, summon, haste, cheer*5, Pain a few times, and lancet (if used over 999mp)/jinx for every 4 Pains (3 initially). Shield before mega-flare. Need 50k HP, 3/4k MP, 255 Str, Def, Mag and 170 agi.
Dark Yojimbo- summon, haste, protect, cheer*5 shield before zanmato, easy. Anima needs 40k HP, 1000 MP, 255 str, def, 170 agil and about 200 Mag.
Dark Magus Sisters- Separate them. Summon, haste, protect if you have time, otherwise shield then protect (reset if she uses razzia on this turn). Use -ga spells to deplete Sandy's HP, shielding before every one of Sandy's turns. For Mindy, summon, protect and prepare for an easy fight, just treat it as a normal enemy that just happens to have a ton of HP. For Cindy, just use trio of 9999 and multi-hit overdrives, summon when her OD is full, cast a few doublecast ultimas and dismiss just before she has a turn after she has used her overdrive.
Dark Anima- not beaten besides Zanmato.
Penance- impossible without zanmato.

Not sure if there's a way of getting it 100% of the time... but you can increase your chances by using Yojimbo often and paying him loads of gil. having his overdrive and paying him 100% of your gil gicves you a high chance

Penance is also in the Australian/New Zealand version :p
Also the best way to Kill yojimbo without the sphere grid is to use the trios of 9999 (I can't remember exactly what its called). Theres some videos on the net where a guy beats the final (storyline) boss without using the sphere grid.

the most annoying thing to play whitout a sphere grid is to survive til u can get eaon soul
wakka s auroch reel won t be so powerful whit 12 hits and no strenght
normally u can do a few mil damage on some fiends but now u gotta survive til eaons soul and boost them like hell i got so strong eaons now whit dubbel overdrive they pwn all dark eaons only got unlucky when the dark eaon kills them to fast and then keep att characters.
