Seriphyle: Prologue Volume 2
Prologue 2: The Sun and the Moon.
Kirsty:
She was awake since the early morning, head filled up with different thoughts and possible speech she would present during the meeting. Where did this all start within the beginning? Why was the World Wide Web shut down, and why the only least possible website on the forum was still up and running? Questions were asked and perhaps answers could be given during the meeting. Those were her thoughts at the moment. She needed answers; nothing could stop her from getting those answers. She was smart in her own way, and she knew how to figure out how things work. She was simply used to it.
The sunny light streams cut through the darkness, slowly, a thin layer of light covered each part of the city more and more, advancing, engulfing it in a silky light screen, banishing the darkness away one more time. Kirsty looked up at the light gray skies; the view from a five story building was indeed amazing. Somewhere faraway, she could notice plains, perhaps a forest, never less, the atmosphere was clean, and the air – enjoyable to breath. She was dressed in tight dark blue jeans, a purple sweatshirt with a few letters on the back and white all-stars sneakers. Bed hair set free to dance with the breeze and face that included no makeup, Kirsty was considered one of the few girls that did not need make up to look beautiful, no matter what she wore, casuals or formals.
She smiled; now when she smiled, you could never take away your eyes from her. It was so mesmerizing and in a way, addicted, that almost everyone went simply nuts whenever she really meant that smile. In one hand, she was holding the ticket to Los Angeles, the city where the meeting was to take place. Now why, or who chose that exact city to hold the meeting, Kirsty did not know, yet it wouldn’t stop her from getting there. Besides, they always say that LA is a good place to hang around at. Checking her silver plated watch on the other hand, she slowly helped herself up and turned around, slowly making her way to the rooftop’s exit door. With the smile stuck on her face, and her eyes, slowly observing the beautiful landscape that was now completely filled with early morning sunlight, Kirsty opened the door and vanished into the inside of the building again. Important things were to happen today, a lot of things were to be said and done, but did she know?
Lara:
The computer screen was still and showed the exact same webpage for over a few hours now. It was dark in the room, and most probably really late at night, the outsides were dark and gloomy with a few light sources and some lit up windows in the nearby buildings. The person in front of the PC seemed to be staring at the screen without reacting to anything else but the monitor. It was the Funender’s forums that was on, the page still and showed that it hasn’t been refreshed for over some time now. The person didn’t move, but inside her head, Lara was deep in thought. She completely lost track of time, and was now, lost in her own thoughts as well. The meeting was to be held the following morning, and even though she hasn’t slept the whole night, Lara was still eager to travel in a few hours to LA.
Why Funender? Why was it still online and how come it functioned while the whole World Wide Web was shut down completely? Not only that, radio signals began to malfunction as well, satellites were completely of no use anymore and most all, the telephone lines were bugged too. You couldn’t call anybody unless you decided to spend a few hours redialing the phone number over and over, hoping to reach the other side of the phone line. Officials were not giving any suitable information fitting the situation, nor anything that would explain why this was happening in the first place. Fake reports of system malfunctioning and errors was all you could hear on the news, or from those fat officials with black rimmed glasses and a nasty look on the face.
Lara was sure that something else was going on. Her guts were telling her this was not some ordinary malfunction. Something or someone was causing this to happen on purpose, but why? Lost again, with no answer given, Lara switched off the screen and lay down on her bed, making herself comfortable for the few hours of sleep that were to come.
‘Who’s doing this…’- were her only mumbling words before her eyes closed and she drifted off into deep sleep. She needed her rest. The worst was yet to come, and she’d have to be prepared for it.
