I agree as well. But this doesn't go just as far as slutty dressing. Square Enix in and of itself is a marketing genious. They've started to give off such bad games. If you notice, the only reason most of us will continue to buy the FF games is because of their beautiful "graphics", and there's no use trying to convince anyone otherwise. It's obvious.
RPGs used to be bought because of the storyline, the epic tales. Final Fantasy VII... Suikoden II... Legend of Dragoon... Back then, there were beautiful RPGs, with average graphics, yet such a beautiful storyline. Nowadays, kids worry SO much about graphics that they won't give two sh*ts about the storyline. It is sad, but it is the truth. Back then, we would turn the cover and read the story. Now, we turn the cover and look at the screenshots.
Slutty dressing is just another level of proving this fact to be right.
It’s true, in a way; the majority of people these days, especially those who were born in the generation of PS2, pay more attention to the graphics, characters’ design… and perhaps some are far way too superficial to judge a game by the clothing of its characters. However; there are still some who actually care more about the storyline putting the graphics in the bottom of their list, sure their number isn’t big compared to those, but they do exist, and I know you are aware of that.
Final Fantasy VII is a very good example. It is one of the best videogames ever created, if not the best of all, even though the graphics aren’t the best. It and Final Fantasy IX are considered by me the best games in the Final Fantasy series, and the storyline takes a huge part in my opinion.
I don’t think we should be blaming Square Enix for this, as I stated earlier, because the entire world is developing and videogames are a part of the development, which involves improving the graphics. I am with that, but I am against improving the graphics and not focusing on the storyline, for the storyline IS the most important part of an RPG. I don’t think there is actually a game on PS2 or game with “beautiful graphics” that has a marvelous storyline like one of the games we play on PS or ones with “not so beautiful graphics”. It’s sad…
Yes, I agree completely FF7 is, in my opinion, the greatest RPG game, up there with Fable. It's storyline is so gripping, the characters are deep with great (REALISTIC) personalities, not the cliched "oh i'm so strong, i can kill all, no-one feel for me but i look so good in my modelling and texture design" hero we see nowadays, clouds more of a "feel me, you feel my pain, i'm a deep personality...now let's kill a beasty " kinda hero. I hate the first, a character needs personality nowadays ><

Hopefully, well, i'm glad that i'm doing something about the falling standards of gamin', i'm goin' old school! With my new RPG game, graphics aren't important, story is ...already got 2 characters family tree and relations sorted, every game needs one of them...for more realism...

Also, I sort of dissagree with Lara on her argument that SE can't be blaimed for it. That every RPG nowadays with great graphics has a bad storyline, I completely dissagree.

Shin Megami Tensei III - Lucifer's Call / Nocturne, because it is FAR too anti-religion to be loved for all it's depth. Check it's storyline, and be the judge.
Shin Megami Tensei - Digital Devil Saga I/II, two games that complete eachother. One of the most metaphorical, religious, controversial and filosophical storylines in EXISTANCE.
Shin Megami Tensei - PERSONA3 - My personal favorite game in the world. It's one of those games where you are completely clueless about what's happening, until you play for 70 hours, and 30 minutes before you finish the game, it ALL makes sense. Check it out yourself, don't go by me.

I said; not like the ones that developers used to make, or the ones previously made for PS. And I was speaking about Final Fantasy games only. Perhaps I should have said “Final Fantasy games” instead of “RPGs created by SE”.
I haven’t played several of the games you listed, or all the games SE created, so I can’t really declare a judgment about all the RPG games.
We can only hope for better RPGs; it’s a waste of time to argue whether there is going to be those “perfect” games or won’t be. It's completely up to the developers.

Cant say I've been playing a lot of Enix games lately so I can name but one that I think did a worthy job as far as storylines go and thats Kingdom Hearts II
Well I know the Metal Gear Solid series is made by Konami but I don't think that's the point and anyway I didn't know they were RPGs I always heard them called shooters but again thats a minor detail because pretty much any game can be called a roleplayer for obvious reasons...and by the way I'm over the whole fanservice thing in games its not nearly as bad as the so called "Girl Games" like Imagine Wedding Designer or Baby Sitter and some of the other shopping, clothes, baby, cooking, and shiny rainbowy unicorny type games that are labeled girl games...but I won't rant about it right now I'm not in the mood.

And well, the Metal Gear Solid is not a shooter. It is called Tactical Espionage Action Game, I think (or so it says). My theory about it being an RPG is simple. Firstly, there are things you can upgrade, equipment, status, a main role, etc.
Why do I call it an RPG, and not call, say, GTA or God Of War RPGs?
Most of these are called Beat'em Up, because the goal is to literally, beat your enemies. Metal Gear Solid is NOT a Beat'em Up game, as you'll very likely die against any same number of enemies that you can easily kill in the other examples I've given. Stepping away from the significance to the name RPG, the Role Playing Games tend to have you utilise your brains, in order to overcome obstacles that are not very obvious.
Some people call MGS an RPG because it is Japanese. This is wrong. Very.
Devil May Cry is Japanese. It is -NOT- an RPG. It is most definately a Beat'Em Up.
Prince of Persia is NOT Japanese, and it is definately an RPG.
I would have thought it more of a real time strategy or stealth but the details aren't important because its still an excellent series with addictive if not annoying gameplay. You know I think I shall start a petition...I'm sure there are alot of people who would stand by it both male and female.
