Georgia was once (as with all Eastern European countries) part of the USSR. Assuming you're not talking about the one in the USA! Some of Russias greatest minds and athletes came from Georgia, so maybe they would want it back, but I personally don't think Russia is in a fit political state to do any conquering - especially not if the whole China/Tibet thing is anything to go by!

I don't think they'd try- the US is a lot weaker than before, but China is also strong- I would count that as a regional power, so I doubt Russia would try anything.

Well, from what I've read and heard, they already have attacked. Bomb and missiles have been launched. I heard it was on account of the fact that the USA and Britain have been trying to convince Georgia to sign under NATO.

Well, from some of the reports on conferences in Georgia, Britain and USA wanted Georgia to be part of NATO so that they may place armed bases within it. Certain sources believe it is so that they may keep a closer watch on the middle east, most noted was Russia.

Russian troops have crossed the border and Georgia has already shot down some Russian fighter jets. Personally, I think they're trying to take Georgia back because Georgia has quite a large amount of natural resources (coal and other such minerals).

yeah, that's how i heard about it (the olyimpics). When it said georgia i stared and wondered what else there is besides peaches, but then my common sense kicked in.
