Rumor of SSMB style fighter by Sony
So I was on Kotaku the today and read a rumor about an SSMB (Super Smash Bros) type fighter could be put out by Sony. Now the most important thing would be gameplay. Does the game add up to SSMB in terms of Gameplay? After that it would be the character line-up.
We are here to put out suggestions for said lineup. Remember, you don't need all the A listers from PS, PS2, PS3 and PSP games. Also not 3rd parties such as EA or Activison could possible lend characters (ala Sonic/Snake from SSMB:B).
So here is a list I'd love to see and possible how they would play:
Note: for the ones I think would be kinda like a clone from SSMB I put their name afterward.
Kratos/Link (God of War)
Daxter (Jak & Daxter)
Red XIII (FFVII)
Rachet & Clank (Rachet & Clank Series)
Goku (license from Konami/Funimation)/Samus
Naruto (licensed from... his parent company) / Fox
Lara Croft
Terra/Zelda (FFVI)

Square managed to balance her in both Dissidias, I don't see a problem.

I think I'd rather Jak tbh. Just an opinion though, I don't have a problem with Dax, I just think that there's a lot more creative stuff they could do with Jak.
I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one FFVII character make it, but I doubt it would be Red, as much as I love him.
Hells yes to R&C. Let's get some wrench throwing action in on this. 
The rest I'm rather indifferent about.

Snake was licensed. So he could be in it, but would probably be removed from future SSMB games.
I was trying to not get all the A-Listers in it and was Staying away from Cloud/Sephiroth/Tidus/etc
I think Barret would be cool, but you have to also look at play style of the character. How would they fight, would any two be clones?
I'm not too familiar with all PS characters but since it would be a cartoon-y fighter having too many realistic characters I think would be bad.

Since when was Super Smash Bros. abbreviated to "SSMB""? There's SSBM which was Super Smash Bros. Melee (SSBM), but the Super Smash Bros. part has always been abbreviated to SSB.
It would be far trickier for Sony to pull such a thing off. At least Nintendo have their own characters, but Sony would have to get permission to use any character in their own SSB-style game. Of course, I doubt Sony would actually be the creators of the game since they don't make their own games, so I suppose whatever company would actually make the game could use some of their characters without too much worry about copyright.

Yeah every time I was typing that I thought, why does this look wrong! lol
Oh well, and Sony have published games before so they could always do it again (LOD comes to mind). I'm guessing they'd hire a 3rd party to actually do it but it would probably under SCEJ/SCEA/SCEE?

Sony publish games, but they don't actually make them. Nintendo does actually make some of their own games (Mario, Zelda, etc.), although they have been getting 3rd parties to help out in the past decade.

Although you're avoiding A listers, if we're looking at smash bros as a comparison, it's gonna be mostly A listers and fan favorites so as cool as it would be, no Red XIII infact final fantasy characters in general are unlikely as most FFs are multi platform especially with early ones appearing on the snes it's more likely that FF characters will be included in the next SSB than a PS based fighter (albeit early FF characters.) also take into account that FF already has its own SSB type fighter in Dissidia.
Going purely on Playstation classics likely candidates I think are:
crash bandicoot/spyro
Snake/Gray Fox
Lara Croft
Sir Dan
Chris Redfield/Wesker
people from dynasty warriors
pyramid head
someone from Tekken (probably Heihachi)
Drake
ratchet & clank
