R.I.P Ronnie James Dio
At 7:45am 16th May a metal legend passed from this world. He had been battling stomach cancer for some time and it was thought that he was recovering well but apparently it was not to be. For anyone living nearby, there will be a Public Memorial Service for Ronnie James Dio on Sunday, May 30th at 2:00 PM at The Hall Of Liberty located at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068.
I don't know how to express my sadness at the passing of such a legend but I hope you will all join me in hoping he is at peace at the great gig in the sky.

WHOA! WTF! ... locating article now...
Employees of the hotel where Slipknot bass player Paul Gray was found believed that a drug overdose caused his death after finding him on Monday.
Bottles of pills and a hypodermic needle were next to the body of Slipknot bass player Paul Gray when he was found dead at an Urbandale hotel, according to a tape of the 911 call.
Listen to audio of the 911 tape.
Gray was discovered at about 10:50 a.m. by a maintenance worker Monday at TownePlace Suites, 8800 Northpark Drive. The worker told the 911 operator that he checked the room after Gray’s mother called to say she could not reach Gray by phone.
The worker also said Gray’s hands and legs were purple when he was found, and he was hunched over in the corner of the room, with all kinds of pills around. He told the operator it looked like Gray had been dead for a while.
“We believe it’s a drug overdose,” the caller said, later adding, "There's a hypodermic needle next to the bed here."
An autopsy performed Tuesday revealed no cause of death, and the Polk County Medical Examiner said he will not release evidence from the autopsy until toxicology tests are released in four to six weeks.
Gray pleaded guilty in 2003 to driving under the influence of drugs after he crashed his Porsche into a Des Moines motorist. His court file included a handwritten note from Dr. Joe Takamine, who said Gray understood the dangers of drug use and was not addicted to any drug.

*sigh* people care more about slipknot's bassist than the lead singer of Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio...what is the world coming to, I weep for gray as well of course but...hmm. these are dark times for metal. Dio, Paul Gray, Mike alexander (Evile's Bassist), The Rev (A7X) and Pete Steele (Type O Negative) all joined the great gig in the sky in the last 6 months

*sigh* I think dime's death marked the beginning of the end... its so hard for me to read these things... I mean, I have stuck with classic rock because these kids lack the respect for true rock... I wish that I had been anywhere near California so I could go to his memorial service... He gave a lot to us and we will remember his rocking spirit now that he has gone :/

yeah i hear you rose, one of the saddest things is that there arent any new legends, all of the metal heroes come from before the turn of the century, where are the new heroes? it's been 10 years ffs, as you say, few people respect true metal these days. regarding dime as sad as it is that he died and how ridiculous the circumstance around his death is, it was a pretty awesome death, to go down on stage with a guitar in your hand and metal in your soul...fk im starting to sound like jack black >.> my point is that it's slightly more dignified than dying in a hotel room somewhere from drug abuse

XD yeah I bet thats what Armegeddon is Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy and Rob Zombie (which are the real big four in my world XD) all play the Apocolypse tour around the world and then leave at the same time by drilling a hole to the center of the earth and creating the biggest volcanic eruption ever literally melting everyone's faces off XD

This was sad news to me. A lot of people I've talked to, for some reason, didn't like Dio. Honestly my favourite Black Sabbath album is Heaven and Hell, which is one of his.
Totally agree with the new legends comment too.
Long live metal ^^

there are no new legends because to be a legend you cant be new... XD
that and no one cares anymore all NEW bands have to be angry younguns or prettyboy emo looking kids
just like pop music
all we ca have now are young "attractive" people
yet we complain about how music used to be better when anyone was allowed to sing. we wouldnt have had phill collins, ozzy, meatloaf, the only "ugly" older people allowed are in black metal bands that are in a niche compared to everyone else

Umm... John Davis?
No offense but never heard of Dio, didn't like Black Sabbath, or Metallica for that matter. And to say Slipknot and KoRn are not rock legends... is a bit rediculous. For years KoRn had the loudest sound system IN THE WORLD (and for all I know, probably still does). Joey Jordison's drum solo is one of the sickest things I've ever seen live. Did you know Slipknot never washed their costumes/masks? That's why they have a new set for each album, because the old set is so soaked with sweat, blood, and vomit it's unbearable. Slipkot actually has a band member who doesn't play an instrument... he simply runs around on stage injuring himself during the show... epic.
I do appreciate the shout out to Meat Loaf though since I grew up on the guy and saw him live 3 times before the age of 10

Lemmy is a prime example of arc's above statement, and nobody said slipknot and korn arent legends, just not quite on the same level as Dio. Jordison spams rudiments and stole the spinning in the air thing from Tommy Lee, yes it's impressive but it's been done before, jordison isnt the selling point of slipknot for me

Slipknot, maybe not, they filled a need in the metal world that wasn't really being filled by any other bands, sans Soilwork and Mushroomhead, but didn't really come up with a new sound per se. I would say that KoRn is much more of a legend than they are getting credit for though. They spear-headed the grunge movement and designed a new kind of metal. And don't say Nirvana spear-headed grunge, cuz that emo-hippy crossover crap is not grunge
And while Corey does have one of the sickest voices in metal (in my opinion), Jordison's beats are really what did it for me in their second album (y'all probably know it as the first album but there was an underground self titled album before it, which I've actually never heard...) and hooked me all those years ago...
Little known fact: StoneSour actually predates Slipknot and was Corey Taylor's first band. After gaining notoriety with Slipknot he reformed StoneSour and in... '04 I think, did a double performance at Ozfest going on stage with Slipknot and StoneSour.

indeed korn deserve far more credit than they get, even though they deny starting nu metal, they did have a huge impact on metal as a whole
