If the PS3 had HD upscaling on all PS1 and PS2 games I would have bought it for that reason alone. They really made bad decisions.

I thought the PS3 did upscale the PS2 and PS1 games. Im sure theres an option to turn upscaling on and off as well as smoothing out the graphics on some games.

Anyway imo I can't see a PS4 anytime soon. Developers seem to be going out of business just with the cost of making PS3 games and in Japan lots are happy to keep going with the PS2. The only way I can see a PS4 is if Sony rethinks there strategy and does a PS console like the Wii, although if that happened it would probably be the day I stopped bothering with PS consoles.

i do belive it does, but since the original image is 480i, upscaling doesnt really do that much. the game God of War 2 has a 480p setting you can turn on and its heard that the 480p setting looks much better than the 480i upscaled to 1080p setting.

Ah so did they add that feature later on? I have been so busy that I haven't even kept up with any 360 or PS3 news. I lost interest when Sony said that the newer models will not be backwards compatible with previous Playstation console games. So now all PS1 and PS2 games can be upscaled to 1080p?

OH YAH, at launch there was a HUGE scaling problem. games were made in 720p and if you were in 1080p setting it would revert to 480p.

they fixed the problem. PS3 games scale up to 1080p, PS2 games dont really look much better scaled up (as im told) and PS1 games dont really need scaling.

also keep in mind that all PS1 games should be playable on the PS3, just PS2 games are in the grey area, as PS2 games require the emotion engine chipset to run properly, earlier models had that extra chipset just to play PS2 games and sony removed it for (god know why, probably to save like $10 or some odd *, the chip was cheap as hell)

Thanks and yeah I did some searching and see that a software update to the PS3 is what provided these new features. Back when I was still up to date with the Sony news they said that they will no longer support BC with older games so that turned me away from the console.
