Race and sports
So im doing a paper (yays lol) and though ill be done in a couple hours i thought id throw this out there because as much as i didnt look forward to doing the paper, it was interesting.
what are your thoughts on how race and sports (be it high school, college, or professional) interact. any sport, whatever. anything that comes to your mind. For instance my paper focuses on the fact that joining a sport early in the education can help one fit in and more or less find a group of friend they wouldnt have normally but later in life, there are certain stereotypes associated with sport stars (which is completely the fault of the media) but even so, those one young adults are following these stereotypes unknowingly.
anyway, any thoughts id find interesting so dont be shy.
and in here, in this topic, i wont stand for anyone putting another race or ethnicity down, OR anyone putting down someones opinion because they have been personally offended. that sounds... complicated now that i read it over again but i want people to speak their mind regardless of content.
also, anything you say in here wont be put into anything im writing if i take longer or you reply sooner lol.

Personally I think race plays a big part in sports...no offense to anyone here...but in most schools I've been in the main people who get accepted into the teams like basketball and football regardless of playing skill are black...whereas the people who play soccer, track, and baseball...generally "white" sports are the white kids...in pro ball unfortunately there are more black players than white...because of increased skill...which just says to me that the black players probably enjoy their sport and play it for fun which gives them more practice...while I think the white people do it for either the fame or money...and end up hating the decision. Then again I know nothing of sports or why guys enjoy them so don't take me too seriously this is just my opinion.

...people evolved to excel at different things...
...Africans who lived near the equator are more fit in running whereas Europeans who have been skating for a longer period of time in cold temperatures would find it easyer to adapt to hockey...

I had the same question once and my dad said that due to black people being slaves and having to endure intense workload, it made them physically stronger which was genetically passed down through generations. I know that even doctors say that is the reason why so many black people have high blood pressure is due to the mental abuse from those times. So popular sports like football and basketball which you can find courts and fields in lower class areas/projects, this is just a sport that most black people excel in. Certain sports that didn't allow black people to play such as Golf was restricted until Tiger Woods managed to get in, so perhaps in the future sports would be more diverse in culture as it becomes more popular in neighborhoods and schools.
The only reason I became a huge basketball player is because I was always tall so my friends basically forced me to play with them until I began liking the sport I am sure if I were forced to play golf or soccer I would have played those sports instead so it depends on your ability and what you have grown up with.

clearly im a little late to my own boat here (my prof loved the paper i did by the way) but its funny you mention that fun, considering even when he won his first masters, there were still more than a dozen golf courses across the country that did not allow black players on the links. not even as a caddy for some. nike and tiger got together, made a PSA, and some courses gave up the terrible law and those that didnt eventually lost business and are no more.
I think think think, that all courses in the usa are now racially diverse.
