PS3 Oblivion and Blu-Ray

it appears that the Oblivion team is having some trouble with getting adiquate loading times on the PS3 version of Oblivion, with loading times being MUCH slower than the 360 version.

the team credits this to Blu-Ray.
BUT there is hope, they are using a trick to decrese seek times and increase loading speeds. it involves Duplicating the information of a game twice on the disc.

so a 25gb disc will have 12.5gb of actual storage and load games at the same speed of the 360 9gb discs.
i guess this is what the extra storage space of Blu-Ray will go to, increasing the load times so it can compete with the DvD.

Yep ive heard Resistance does the same its all just padding data and something to try and prove Blu rays needed when its not.

From what I read last night the DVD 9GB is actually quicker than Blu ray with padded data. As DVD at 8X speed loads at 11mbs compared to Blu rays 9mbs at 2X.

By padding the data there removing the advantage of extra storage space so they may aswell just use DVDs in the PS3.

Yes they have shot themselves in the foot. They should have waited till Blu ray loaded at faster speeds but that would be the next gen after this one. Its not a capacity issue its about pushing there movie format. If it is capacity they should take the 360s approach and have an add on HD drive.

actually it would have taken about a year for a 4x BD Drive....
but to launch in Winter of 2007 and give the 360 a 2 year head start, and the wii a full year head start and have no hardware advantage to prove for those 2 years would be a waste of time and money.

Well I suppose they may at some point in the future add faster drives into newer PS3 models. Could make it worth waiting for one and not buying on release.
