PS3 and me
i find myself constantly thinking...
ive been an avid participant in the console war. ive atleast TRIED to maintain a non-baised state.. which many would say i have failed at.
but the truth is.. there is one feature of the PS3 that really makes me interested and excited to see how it turns out.
the Linux Operating System.
why does this interest me so much?
Because $600 is expensive for a Gaming console
but $600 is cheap for a high-end PC (which it kinda is...)
the fact that there is source code available for download means that i can download Open Source games and install them to the PS3 and play them.
hell i could Install WINE and play World of Warcraft.
the THING is though is that i'm not sure it will be able to do many of those things because sony is VERY VERY sensitive of its propritory software. and i'm worried that it WONT allow you to use Open Source software at all. because in doing so they are putting the whole "Blu-ray" and "HDMI" hardware at risk of losing it Copyright infringing Firepower.
if i own a PS3, it will be solely for Linux. the occasional game rental, but really nothing more than that.
Plus. Linux is just bad ass, and i would love to check out how the systems hardware works.

lol they got a world of warcraft game out i think or it is coming out. or so ive heard. but what im talking about is it being on the ps3 or 360 not on pc.

nono, world of warcraft is quite PC exclusive.
but by Having a linux OS on the PS3. there is a very.. very small chain of letting PC games run on the PS3.
it goes like this:
Windows Game to Linux
Linux game then emulated on the cell (imagine Reverse Emulation. as in your PS3 emulating your Windows XP)
Slow as molasis preformance.
it wont run well. but damnit it would be awesome to just say "hey, i got world of warcraft running on the PS3"
XxClouDStrifexX be VERY careful on persuasive essays on consoles.. many MANY people tend to get caught up in the whole "Console war" thing and try to actually give reasons to Buy a PS3 over a 360 or Wii.. which believe me Instructors are NOT looking for.
instead, Try to persuade the audience that they should get a PS3 rather than not get one. it will be easier to write trust me.

molasis is ridiculously slow, not to mention its foul taste. i speak of dark molasis, and i mess with you not, the worst way to die is drowning in a pool of dark molasis.

Thorlord has a very skewed view of the PS3 in my opinion. Corporations aside (I believe sony makes the best games anyway) the PS3's hardware is 50x as powerful as the Xbox 360 and the only thing Wii has going for it is the ability to download any Nintendo game ever made and play it. The PS3 offers FREE WIFI internet connection, and all that stuff about stolen ideas: Sony announced the motion sensor controllors LONG before Nintendo did. I personally would seriously consider (and am considering) selling a kidney to get a PS3.
Wii Processors:
CPU: 729 MHz PowerPC based processor codenamed "Broadway", made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process[5]
GPU: 243 MHz ATI "Hollywood" GPU made with a 90 nm CMOS process[57]
Memory:
24MBs "main" 1T-SRAM
64MBs "other" 1T-SRAM
PS3 Processors:
The PS3's 3.2 GHz Cell processor, developed jointly by Sony, Toshiba and IBM ("STI"), is an implementation to dynamically assign physical processor cores to do different types of work independently. It has a PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and six accessible 3.2 GHz Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs), a seventh runs in a special mode and is dedicated to OS security, and an eighth disabled to improve production yields.

hmm then what was i watching on cinematech and had a title said world of warcraft, they said straight out that it was on the ps3.
they must have mis informed us.*sob*

many, many people want WoW on another console.. there is NOTHING official.
Microsoft has been putting their neck out to get Blizzard to make WoW for the 360. but blizzard keeps shooting them down.
and if blizzard cant be bribed with Microsofts money.. then its PURELY up to blizzard to chose if, and thats a big IF, the game comes out on a console at all.
