Problem with the Internets!

I got a question for about networking (mainly for Thorlord or FUN but anyone else with computer knowledge is more than welcome to input)

I'm having some internet problems... When I'm able to browse the internet everything is fine. I was just on this site looking around and reading posts and everything seems normal. But I tried opening a tab to google (and numerous other sites) and Firefox said it couldn't find it like I was not connected. I could still browse Funender and could even post so I know it wasn't just in my cache. This has been happening a lot recently and if you have any knowledge that would be awesome.

What I think is happening is that somehow the router or modem is losing touch with the ISP's DNS server and it cannot resolve host names into IP addresses. I tried pinging and tracert websites and the computer doesn't even want to do it. It happens on my roommates computer also (different brand of comp).

Do you think it may be the ISP though? This happens off peak hours as well. When I power cycle the router and modem it seems to let me connect to websites. I have a suspicion it could be the modem as well cause I did reset the router last time and it didn't help.

Anyway, any help would be awesome!

sounds like the router. i would check and make sure you have the latest firmware on the router.
are you conneting through wireless? if you are try it through the Ethernet cable.

its COULD be the ISP, but routers go out more often than the ISP does (unless your ISP is some small company that isint very good)

if all that fails, and its software, try other browsers, i had a similar problem in firefox, and i just switched completely to Google Chrome. ive been using it since launch and honestly, i dont think i could go back right now.

Hmm... then it's the router... It is the lowest end of the series...

My ISP is Rogers Cable... so I doubt their DNS servers are down or loopy. I did upgrade to the latest firmware and still it happens...

I'll try another browser the next time it happens. I think I have Opera on my laptop
