problem with dell optiplex GX110
ok, im back, but only because i need help with fixing a computer at my workplace
anyways, here's the problem, the computer (look at subject for type) is not booting up correctly, first we tried reinstalling windows xp using DOS, and we used the BIOS screen to boot from the cd-rom drive first, and it installed successfully, when we rebooted the computer it said there was a disk read error, we tried installing xp on several harddrives, but to no avail, but now we are trying to update the BIOS using a cd, and it is not starting the bootup from the cd-rom, and i think i am not burning the files onto the cd properly, and that could be why we cant do it, if somebody can help me i would really appreciate it, thanks

First, change your ribbon cable, or SATA cable to a new one if possible. If it is a ribbon cable and both the HDD and CD-Rom or any other devices are on the same channel(cable) try just putting the HDD on the cable. It it's SATA than try using a different SATA cable.
If cables don't do anything, try plugging it into a different SATA port (if SATA).
Don't try and flash the BIOS from a CD, try putting the bios image on a floppy. (ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR CURRENT BIOS IMAGE)
Also make sure you have the right bios for the motherboard you are using (MAKE SURE!) and follow anything on the motherboards website (GO TO YOUR MOTHERBOARD's website for the bios and how to flash the bios on the particular motherboard you have) about flashing BIOS's for that type of board.
Other than that, I cannot say.
Oh you don't boot from a cd with the bios image... you need a bios image and a BIOS flash utility on a bootable floppy disc (I guess you could put the files on a cd but the cd would have to have DOS on it or something)
oh and it could be a power supply issue as well so look into that if you flash your bios and it still is wonky.......
