Price to make the PS3?
My husband came home the other night and was telling me that he had heard that it cost about 850.00 to make each one of these consoles? And that they are hoping to make up the money they will lose when selling them on the games. Has anyone on here heard this? Just curious? Thanks

its 100% true.
the 360 was selling for a loss for a year, and just this past month microsoft started making a profit (about $12 though)
the wii is the ONLY console i can think of that has lauched with a profit when sold.

really... i cant imgaine the hours nintendo put into the wiimote to make it the kind of quality it is. but being as the console is only 250... how much of a profit could they be making?

i think i read it costs them about $200 to manufacture and ship.
but thats a guess.
they approached the wii in a completely different way, they weren't going for raw power in its hardware, but rather its expandability. the coding and hardware is EXTREMELY efficient. its primarily architecture.

i can see how their plan has already been more effective. graphics never were my thing and i think a lot of gamers are the same. id rather see something new then the same old stuff thats shinier.
(just for the record shiny stuff is good too haine lol)

Wow, I will have to show him this thread. I told him I thought he was nuts. He will like to see that he was right. I don't know why I just never really thought that they would do this. But if it does make them money in the end I guess that's all that matters.

They probably make tons of money on the games too. By the time you get the full PS3 system with extra controllers and a small set of decent games, you have easily spent over $1000.

And the bad thing about spending all that money is you can bet that within a year or two the next big new system will be coming out. That's what frustrates me with the systems.

closer to 4 years.
but yah, they make money off of the games and accessories, and hardly any on the console.
thats why there are so many games and accessories available.

yea the thing i like about sony is the time they wait
it seemed like the minute xbox was created xbox 360 was comin out
in america i believe ps3 was released november or december in 2000, and ps3 came out 06....am i correct?
because im pretty sure thats the xmas i got it

it was 4 years... its not what i'd call a short time.
hell it wasent announced until last year for crying out loud.
