Posts notifications in sub-forums

I use the Original Theme, I'm not sure how different it would be with other themes, but I was wondering if it's possible to do some amendments so the colour of the notification-symbol-thing of the main forum would change when there are new posts in the sub-forums, not only when there are new posts in the main forum. I think it will make it easier to notice for lazy eyes like mine lol
