Perhaps the main reason for the slowing economy

I haven't heard anyone say this on the news or anywhere else, so I wonder if this reason plays a huge role in the slowing economy. I grew up on military bases around the World and when the soldiers are home, they spend nearly their whole check on luxuries since they live free on base with free gas and electric. They do not have to worry about mortgage so every payday they would storm into the stores and buy everything. Now that they are away in Iraq that probably is a loss of billions of dollars which is why so many corporations are going bankrupt. Of course in addition to the cost of the war and the rising oil prices. I really think that the war is stupid since when does attacking someone solve a problem? It only makes the enemy more aggressive.

you got a point there i think...

another reason would be something someone on the news said "when you talk long enough about a recesion coming, it will eventually get there"

i think people got scared, and started saving up money

before the war everyone seemed to talk about the possibility of our economy declining. Then after the war starts the one thing that came up most during conversations is "oh war always boosts our economy, it puts people to work.." well, It hasn't, in fact it seems to be doing just the opposite.

Really? Before the war everyone I know was having fun and enjoying life Razz I wasn't aware of the economy prediction. However the "analysts" always predict the worst of everything and when one bad thing finally happens they say "See we were right!" Now they are saying global cooling instead of global warming.... I will not longer listen to that prediction anymore.

Sorry but I am not sure what your point is purin. If you are saying that the reason for the poor economy is due to foreclosures, that is another reason that so many military families probably moved onto base for free rent due to high gas prices.

Honestly i never really pay that much attention to the "analysts" and news casters spewing there predictions and agenda's.
i deal with a lot of older people. your farmers, cattlemen, truck drivers, and such. these guys never get a break it seems.(and trust me, their more than happy to tell ya about it, just ask one)
The cost of a service on a Semi-Truck and farm tractors alone has gone from 45$ in 2000 to $79-89 an hour. not to mention the cost of parts. now that china and a few other countries are buying up tons upon tons of scrap iron and other metals, the price of repair parts continue to rise. and lets not forget the rising fuel costs. I know truckers who are just barely breaking even, driving from the east coast all the way west and using anywhere from $1500 and up on fuel costs in a single week. ( what used to cost $ 1.75 a gallon is now $ 3.50-4.50) and just couple that with crop futures predicted to be lower again this year and you can imagine just how frustrated they must be.
all the while getting paid the same or less.
and this all gets passed along to us,
and i admit this is only part of the reason our economy is slipping.

Well, I just reckoned people were spending too much.... Although I'm sure credit cards have been around for ages.
