over heating...
my ps3 seems to over heat alot and it worried me slightly as i've never had a console do that in a quick amount of time. even if its only on for an hour it burns to touch. ok burns is a little over the top but hopefully you understand what i mean... is this normal for a ps3? i heard in the past ps2's had this problem but my ps2 doesn't heat up at all... :/

Mine's never really had that problem,
Then again mine's the slim version... theoretically it's supposed to consume less energy...
Is yours the bulkier version?
I heard that one needs to have serious free space around it in order to keep cool, so that might be the problem?
Do you have it surrounded by a lot of things?

unfortunately, i guessed this would be more likely with the slim models. though it uses less energy, its still got everything in a closer proximity to each other so heating up is bound to happen in some cases.
i know you can buy a $20 thing that hooks on the back to add fans i believe but i don't know if it will work with the slim models. either way, point a fan on it for the time being. it cant hurt. also, look up if there is a way to flush out any dust in the back of the unit, that can cause overheating issues as well.

I don't have a ps3 yet -_- So I dunno if this is possible, but do you have it sitting on the vent for the fan? Also, if you have it in a cabinet like my games, you could keep the door open.

Thanks Vanya XD

This is far from normal, I don't have a slim, in fact I have one of the really early models. And as with my ps2 (also a really early model) I can leave it on for a week (not an exaggeration) without any heating problems at all. I can be playing it 16 hours a day like that and still, no issues. So I've no idea how to fix it.
Just thought I'd throw out there that it's far from normal.
And Rex's idea is a good one, I'd try that. The room mine is in is very well circulated so that may be why I never have issues.

actually. just a thought. this might not work as well but you could buy a laptop fan (that sits under a laptop) and gets its power from a usb port which the ps3 would provide. though... the fans on the ps3 are in the back right?
anyway....
yeah.
